How should I start collecting Pokemon cards?

Try flea markets, most people there have a shoebox of old cards and don't know their value. Try not to go to a playing card stall, though, unless you know enough about prices to not get scammed.

To study up on card prices, check ebay or go to some conventions, maybe some TCG competitions (lots of collectors there). You may also be interested in finding a collectible cards forum, or one specifically for pokemon.

 

You can buy complete sets in Ebay, and I would recommend getting the shadow version, cheaper and still uncommon.

 

Just buy them eBay, screw the news agent.

 

Ha that's funny as fuck because that's ironically the first person that came to mind when you mentioned a youtuber and pokemon. He's fucking hilarious.

 

Going to garage sales for cards would be a good start, also i would check your local comic book store [if you have one that is]

Like you stated there would most likely be a few yard sales where you could find binders of just old cards that kids used to have and are selling and it's kind of a shot in the dark but you might be able to pick yourself up some nice cards.

as for telling fakes/real cards i have no clue, but i do know collecting pokemon cards can be a very good hobby and you can make quite a bit of money.

like people will buy packs and packs of cards just so they can find a few rare cards that will pay for all of the packs and still make them profit.

You might want to look into doing that maybe?
