Graphic Design

So i'm going to be taking some college classes on graphic design.

Anyone have some input on this? what it will be like? what things i should really REALLY enjoy to get into it? Things i may need/want to use?

Color theory is very important in the grand scheme of things. I really enjoy drawing honestly, and I really love painting.

 

Well I've been a student for 2 years now on Media & Graphic design and what i really found out is like Nero already mentioned is colors.. You need to really focus on colors and know everything about them, for instance the way it can alter from screen to print. <-- which is VERY important

And yea again like Nero mentioned is drawing, which is pretty important if i say so myself, if you're able to draw you wont be restricted on using images but you can draw exactly what you wanna use for your work.

Pretty lame input from me to be honest, but I'd say just have fun and enjoy,, it's lots of fun!

 

what kind of things should i start doing before trying to take classes on it, like drawing drawing with programs on my pc? anything special?

I tend to be creative when i need to be so idk if that helps with deciding what i should get into

 

It depends on what area you want to be involved in mostly. If you want to be good at drawing and what-not, well the best place to start is by sketching. For web design, photoshop is necessary and then say if you want to get into 3d modelling, blender is decent - that's what they use in New Zealand.

 

eww blender, what timezone is new zealand? -2k years?

 

I would really like to get into doing GFX like what is done on sythe, make signatures, threads, etc. for people from different forum communities, and build websites.

 

Drawing is the base for any and all art. Start with it and get good. Practice an hour to two every day and keep your sketchbooks. Also look up Andrew Loomis' book Fun with a Pencil. It helped me learn to draw.

I have like 6 e-books from Andrew Loomis on my laptop .. but i'm not sure if i'm allowed to give it out here??

 

So i really want to start doing some "Signatures/thread layouts" for people on sythe. Will be working on PS (probably) any tips on me getting started?

What kind of classes should i be looking for [college wise?] or just classes in general

(i don't have any art class history or drawing or anything but i am very creative (just get creativity cock block [i have an amazing idea pictured and i go to do it and it looks like total shit]) So i'm not sure what i should be looking into so any help would be nice!

You'll probably learn about branding, principles of design, etc. Buy a textbook relevant to your course beforehand and just read up

 

the only thing is i dont do well learning from a txt book, i am a very hands on person and am better if someone is physically showing me how to do said thing...so thats a disadvantage for me
