Why are people addicted to runescape?

Lol quite funny&sad actually, people spending hours upon hours of Their precious time sat down playing this game.. 2-3 hours a day is acceptable but anymore than that is purely sad. Why are majority of players attached to this game? lol

 

I used to sit +10hrs daily when I played RS, now I rarely login, only for MMing trades
Decided to quit after I noticed I fucked up 14,000 hours which would profit much better than $1050 what I got for my completionist account and also after EoC came out

 

Interesting question that I never had the time to ask myself.

Well I used to be a sad Rs addict, which I dont really regret as I enjoyed my gameplay, but I decided to quit like 1 year ago when I noticed I had more important things to focus instead of wasting my time on something that would never bring me a true benefit.

Answering your question: I believe people are addicted to RuneScape as the game is addictive itself, there are a lot of things you can do and there are a lot of things you would've never though of doing, like wielding a bow and arrows and killing online players, or an important fact is that you get the chance to be related with people from other countries

 

Some people have friends in the game. Years ago when Runescape was fun I would spend 12 hours a day sometimes lol.

 

It's just like anything else. Why do people get addicted to meth? Because it makes them feel good in one way or another.

 

I was quite the pker, so it never got boring killing and killing again. I also had a shit load of gp so I risked pk so it was more fun

 

Honestly, i was addicited as fuck along time ago.

It started off by watching my cousin playing the game, and I thought it was lame as hell. Then I tried it, and then i fell in love with player killing and takin niggas money when they died. That and staking solely contributed to my major addiction. Then at 16 years old i started smoking pot, and i said fuck all this shit its lame as hell. So i quit RS, quit watching TV, and just smoke weed and lift weights.

haha i remember id wait for my parents to go to sleep and get back on to play at like 2 am on school nights, it was really bad. thank God i dont play that shit anymore.

 

As for me i was addicted to the game years ago and would play 12 hours+ a day. My grades were going bad, i would always get pissed when i was told to get off, i would also get on after my parents when to bed on school nights. Then in 2007 my junior year i said screw this game and quit. My grades got better i graduated, I sold all my accounts that i made. I literally had 8+ of them. Then i started to bot in 2010 did that for a year/half never even logged onto my account except to turn the bot on. Then said fuck it the games to easy. Now I'm in the Army leaving for Boot Camp in February and will NEVER touch this game again. Probably won't even get back on this site when i get back.

I think the main reason is the grinding in Runescape. In order to have fun or to earn prestige you need to grind your way through many levels. That takes a lot of time, so people play a lot.

People become addicted because they don't want to stop playing before they've reached an achievement.

 

Tbh I dont even thin people are addicted to it anymore its mainly about botting getting gold selling gold and getting irl cash. Thats what runescape is all about.

It's an analogy, and it's not the exact same kind of addiction - but it's an addiction that forms because the substance/thing gives them a pleasant feeling that the body enjoys. Meth makes your body need it, while Runescape makes your mind think it needs it. An addiction forms in both cases.

I agree it's purely about the grinding required to do anything decent.

People see videos/pictures of the higher game content and want to do it.

Then once they reach a certain level, they look for the next challenge and it continues oO

 

With a lot of people spending hours upon hours over the years playing, it can sometimes feel like a huge waste to just leave it for good; I'm not saying you have to continue to playing 12 hours+ a day because your playtime may die down over time, but you're still keeping that connection with the game, while quitting would mean that you're trying to lose the connection period(which is where the feeling of waste comes from).

It could have something to do with the fact that there is SO MUCH to do and complete(which obviously adds up to a lot of time) and if you're one of those people who like to 'complete' a game as much as possible, that could keep you playing for a good while.

 

I was "addicted" at one point, it was a distraction from problems irl. Everyone has a different reason whether it be impressing people online because they're bullied irl or as simple as they just enjoy gaming.

As long as they aren't neglecting their social and physical needs then I wouldn't call it sad. It's a hobby like anything else.. some people just might prefer computer games to sports, no big deal.

 

Quitting was the best decision I've ever made. I think almost everyone would benefit from quitting the game and directing their efforts towards something that will be of use in life. I mean, what are you going to tell yout friends and family when you're 30 years old? "Uhhm, well i used to have 99 in every skill on on a computer game. Oh! Let tell you kids about the time I did monkey madness..."

Thr only good thing that I got out the game was money, but even then that didn't happen until after I had stopped actually playing, and I still feel that all the hours I spent collecting names should have been used for studying and doing homework.
