We may be reducing the punishment involved with it. Thoughts / opinions on what it should be (you can be creative)?

I think not. One month ban seems perfectly acceptable to me, at most one week. I feel some of the rules are being made too lenient.
On the other hand for free guides I think the plagiarism rule should be a warning first. Plagiarized sold guides is pretty similar to selling glitched GP, and should be treated the same.

why change it? 1 month forum ban is ok. i would not like it if somebody steals my work and say it's his/her work

The idiots that plagiarize need to know how bad it is to partake in that. One month is gud.

Unless the person is trying to profit I don't think it warrants a full 1 month ban.

Plagiarism is the same thing as stealing IMO. If anything the rules should be MORE strict, stealing someones intellectual property is the same thing as stealing anything esle. If anything its worse than a theft of simple material possessions as those are replaceable, intellectual property isnt.

I understand some of the rules are being bent a bit seemingly to keep more traffic on site and for less bans to be occurring but plagiarism is theft and i dont think it should be tolerated what so ever. I personally would be much more hurt if someone stole a guide or information i had written that them scamming me some piddly GP. Im down for increasing the punishment, at least make it a longer ban/(ideally a PERM) if the individual is intending to sell the guide as profiting off someone elses intellectual property is not only theft from the owner but scamming prospective buyers by profiting off what is not his or her own property.

Anyone attempting to resale a guide that is not there should be an automatic perm ban or someone trying to sell a guide that is already free. Someone posting a free guide and claiming it is theirs should get a single warning to take it down, like a cease and desist, and then get banned for the one month.

So, by reading the current thread above I gather that plagiarizing something in general is a one month ban from the forum. To me personally I feel like one month is fine or if anything not enough, Plagiarizing is a serious offense so, in my opinion it should stay a one month ban then. If the person is trying to profit off of it then it should possibly be more.

Did the thought of how much plagiarism occurred affect how long the ban is? i.e. if someone takes a picture from someones guide and uses it, does it warrant the same ban as someone how copy pasta'd someones training methods 1-80, or whatever

In most colleges or universities, if you get caught plagiarizing, you get kicked out/expelled immediately. Same concept should go for Sythe...

I agree with what you said heads, Plagiarizing is wrong bottom line so why should they have lesser punishment for it? They know what they are doing is wrong.

I think if the user is intentionally trying to gain from the guide, then a month's ban is completely warranted. If the user is genuinely just trying to be helpful and not intending to profit from it then something a bit less harsh would be more fair such as a weeks ban etc. Unless, of course the guide originally was purchased then obviously not.

Yeah, that's a valid point. I think if its just some idiot who wants to get e-respect, then just a week or so should be fine.

Yea. Selling something that isn't yours is worse than posting it in the guides section. Ripping graphics is another thing that comes up. I'd be happy with a multi-tier system based on intent and free vs not free. I'm just not one to push for "justice" or harsh punishment. Just make them not do it and keep the community safe and I don't care.

Ripping graphics is a graphic section sin and should always result in a perm ban, it the same as scamming an artist. There is a complete difference in fair use though. There used to be a sticky in the graphics section that Spray and I wrote concerning fair use and when a stock piece is no longer considered ripping. It is generally thought of as when a piece is altered so significantly that it can no longer be recognized as the original piece. I hold the same for the written word, if you take something and claim it to be your work then you shouldn't be welcomed here. Now if you post a guide/piece of art, give at least notice that this isn't yours - you don't even got to give a source just don't make false claims that it is yours. If you're trying to sell it is a completely different thing. It is scamming and if you treat this any different then the rule should be people who scam gp or cash should only get a months ban. The OGVs see plagiarized guides all of the time and all of those people trying to pass those guides should be banned.

Selling it should remain the same but posting it free without credit should be like 3 days
