I hate it when...

People judge other peoples taste in music. I swear I hear other people judging others in the music they like. It pisses me off, I mean, why does it matter what you like listening to?

 

People (Mainly "Metalheads" in my experience) like to feel a sense of superiority over others based on the music they listen to.
Yeah, it sounds stupid, but people are stupid.
Not trying to throw metal under the bus,
but the metal community has a seriously stupid problem of "deathcore is for pussiessss haha death metall forever1!!" or "if you listen to suicide silence ur fuking gayyyy"

 

I know exactly how you feel lol.. I grew up listening to Country music and living out in the country and now that I'm older (21 years old) people and a few friends think that it's funny to laugh at me for listening to what i enjoy. I listen to a little Rock music once in awhile but that's it.

The way i see it they don't need to dish on me for my music cause i probably see the music they listen to the same way but i don't say anything about it.

 

You'll find alot of metalheads listen to various genre's and not just 'metal'.

Now, metalcore... I'm not too keen on the music, nor the image, but that's just my opinion.

1) Ear-raping screams.
2) Their image. Especially fringes.

Suicide Silence:



The lead singer looks like an Oli Sykes clone, who himself is a terrible singer and looks like a pre-pubescent child along with the rest of the band.



Having a fringe is incredibly infuriating, speaking from personal experience.

Why have a fringe when you could have a kick-ass beard and long hair?



...and an axe.

3) The fans.

Generally popular amongst teenage boys and girls, which in turn annoy me, ESPECIALLY emo boys (again, speaking from past experience).

Why you would want to wear skinny jeans is beyond me. I don't see the appeal in constricting, tight clothing that makes getting a boner in a public place a very awkward situation.

This is a just a quick rant, and not a direct attack on you. Apologies if you're really into metalcore. I'm not saying "this is what you should think!" because you're not me.

I don't openly put people down in public, nor on forums about their tastes in music as I tend to think of myself having quite a diverse music taste, varying from Ambient to Death Metal with a few exceptions. Music taste is a touchy subject, and people take other people voicing their opinions to heart too easily, because it's something close to them, something they can relate to. Perhaps it has comforted them in a time of need, or they've got a crush on the singer.

 

I agree, I used to be a fan of greenday and my chemical romance and used to get shit on all the time and these kids were listening to police whistles and I could respect that, but they can't respect greenday?

To be fair Suicide Silence isn't metalcore, they're usually classified under extreme metal and some times deathcore - not to get into a genre discussion but I do enjoy Suicide Silence. They're probably the apex of their genre. (Also sadly Mitch Lucker (vocalist for SS) died about a month or so ago)

If you want to listen to good metalcore then listen to Between The Buried and Me, they're almost more of a technical death metal band because they use crazy polymorphic riffs and interesting time signatures.

Now a band that I can't stand is Cannibal Corpse. They're the absolute lowest of the death metal bands and if I am going to listen to classic death metal I would much rather listen to At The Gates. One thing I don't really like listening to is Sludge metal, eyehategod and those types of bands. Though I do like progmetal and alt-metal and a little avante garde metal (ie Diablo Swing Orchestra)

The thing is metal fans are picky about their metal and they usually think their metal is better than your metal.

Pantera and Sepultura are awesome. No matter what genre you like.

 

I hear ya mate! I get annoyed too. If they can't produce something that's almost the same, they shouldn't be judging them, unless they are experts.
