A Petition for Name Changes.

No support for name changing it would just generally get to messy and how would you keep track of which vouch thread is who`s and so on`s?

The only way to do it would be on that persons profile to add a previous name part however I think it is just to much work for no need .

 

It wouldn't be confusing, it'd only be granted to those members who have not been temporarily banned for infractions or otherwise (my proposal), and are deemed to have an unprofessional name. It wouldn't be people left, right and centre - merely a small minority who've earned the privilege.

 

To add on to this, why not make a mandatory UT saying "Formerly known as ..." for a designated amount of time to stop confusion.

 

Nah I don't think that's a good idea. I just think it's better to have people's display name history be available on their page. If our old VB doesn't support this then I disagree with this suggestion and name changes should stay as is (given to any staff member for any reason and changing their name to any name they want).

 

Yet again, no. I'd become I DONT BOT if it came to that, which I don't like the look of, neither do I like the look of i dont bot or I Dont Bot. Capitalization should have been thought of when you first did the registration. Still against name changes, they are a reward for staff if their current name is unprofessional.

Yea I agree with this, if we do name changes then it should display old names under profile. I would like to see it be more limited like been a member for 6+ months and only be allowed 1 name change a year or something similar.

 

Yeah that's understandable, but the _ in my name was put just so I can register as I kept getting errors when I was trying to register Silver J. Anyways that's just my input. Final decision is up to staff.

 

That sounds kinda reasonable. I'd support a bit of leniency such as capitalization or removing the _ and replacing with a space but nothing major.

 

I support small name changes such as capitalization or removing/adding a symbol like - or _
Bigger changes would give problems, even though I would like to have JJ or J J like other forums.

 

I don't wanna sound rude, but this will never happen.

 

I support on these conditions, however a slight change;

Must have been registered for minimum 'x' years
No scam reports
Only one name change allowed per user

 

Thank god. I really can see this making a HUGE difference, people will be changing MSN's, Skypes, and it will be heaven for scammers. :/

 

If it's at least been mentioned, there may be room for movement. A lot of things being changed lately, I wouldn't be surprised if this was slightly more lenient too

Well that's the problem I see, too many people would use it to their advantage to scam.

Hey I'm all for a capitalization here or a _ taken out but full name changes are just a joke. Come on we do it for one person and everyone flips a shitstorm. I think that's why we don't allow it. If people want to have a cap or something donate $200 and get a UI lol.

 

UI's allow for capitalization but not for removing or adding _, etc. It must be exactly like their username.

 

^ This. When I submitted my first UI, I had forgotten about my _'s, and it got rejected. I got told it all had to be in capitals, which is good as I preferred that. Names should have to be the same in UI's tbh.

Personally, I understand how you feel - I have a few forums that I made some crappy named user, and am now stuck with it. And I'm sure there are some mods around here who had crappy names, and now changed it for the sake of professionalism (*cough* Dave *cough) however try and imagine the confusion it could cause.

To further on the example of Dave, at first, I was slightly puzzled between the differences of Dave and Dave. - this made it confusing (albeit for about 10 minutes) to differentiate between the two on IRC.

Basically, if I've got used to an old member's name, and they suddenly have a name change, it can be a bit confusing, and this could create some unfortunate incidents such as scams to occur in the transition between these names.

Just my two cents.

 

Capitalization, removing/adding "-" and "_" isn't that big of a deal in my opinion. As for name change, I say no even if you're from 2007 & only have 500 posts & have never traded. People still may know you by that name, and if you change it, you're off the grid. Too retarded to allow. I'd change my name to "Beahua" as I've been going by that username since 2006, but if that were to happen, it'd cause too many problems. My vouches would probably be accused of being fake by at least one person from time to time. If someone thought I was a scammer, or sketchy, etc, and I changed my name, they wouldn't be able to know the difference unless it was required to put "Formerly known as.." In which case, again, is too much work for so little.
