Support. The amount of users who would be scammed by imposters would go right down.

 

Expanding from this. Maybe staff could access them if a scam report has been put up against that user, could be used to get information, but can only be accessed under this circumstance.

Verts found a preceded application that would, of course, take some tweaking, but it would take care of most of the coding. Also, Matthew and Sythe are very capable coders, they would do the necessary alterations.

 

I support this, it would be very convenient and could avoid imposters.

Well, I do believe I have a good track record of keeping everything secure, including my website, but I do understand your point. I would be willing to help out monetarily if it goes directly to fund this project, and the only "interest" I would have is having a messaging system that I'll actually use.

 

I don't remember the context for that second quote you made, but I'm either stupid enough or intuitive enough to know 99% you'd never scam or take advantage of the situation. Still, I also have to be realistic, and every user knows you've been banned, and as per usual, people like to make up reasons instead of researching the real reason.

Therefore, I THINK the context was where we were discussing necessary encryption of the chat log, and I still believe that'll be highly necessary to put all of the sythe users at ease. They must be comfortable in order for them to willing use the IM system, especially because real money is at stake.



On a related note to the suggestion in general: I believe it's not only necessary anymore, but its desperately needed. MSN is being shut down, Skype is absolutely level-1-easy to impersonate people, and there will be mass confusion with new users who already have trouble contacting buyers and sellers safely. With msn shutting down, this is now a MUST HAVE.

 

I remember suggesting this a while back it is a great system to have but somebody told me it was easy to abuse and exploit. I don't know if there's fixes to these but if there are then it would be a great addition to the site.

I support this, I think it is a great idea. Would be a lot easier then having to worry about skype and msn etc. Has this been decided whether or not it is going to be implemented?

 

I don't support, a new system will bring bugs, and bugs will be the cause reason for scams and hackings I am sure.

I can only imagine the stress on the server but it seems like a good idea.

 

This can be tied to the profiles.
People can add each other to their friend lists and you can see who has added who. Also you can upload your own pictures and customize your profile. This is where msgs can appear on each other profiles implementing the msg system idea.

 

This is a very good suggestion actually, i'd really use it all the time if this was available!

Maybe it would also be nice to see a tab within that system with all OMM names listed to see who is online and offline and when you click on their name you are redirected to their OMM Thread?

 

Here is why I support this idea.

Like it has already been said, being able to verify identities via some sort of chat system like he is suggesting would be a big help to stopping scammers. Magic arrow, you said yourself that the only people that would most likely use this system would be old timers or regulars..

Now, most of the time we lose potential legit traders because there first or second experience here at Sythe is usually a scammer taking advantage of them. However, if it was implemented where trades were done directly on the Sythe page from a users Sythe profile, not only would we stop most imposters, it would make our new users feel safer while trading.

If something like this was implemented, I would even suggest having new rules set to NOT aloud off site trading with other users. (Most wont agree with this but its just an extra step that could be taken)

Most new users wont know to do something like this, MOST new users just jump right in and start trading out of excitement or because they are ready to get rid of their goods. Then, before they realize what happened, an impostor has taken them for all they have. Then we just lost a possibly good and honest member of Sythe to some prick, and most wont even report them because they are moving to fast, so a report this conversation button would be perfect for this problem, new users would see it and know they should hit the button.

Again, this would stop that, and eliminate the whole (PM me first please)

Busy/away on the chat - GREAT idea, again because you may be online selling at this time, but what if you have to run to town, or what if you are in a trade? If I am trading with someone I dont want to talk with other people, I set my status to busy so they know I am currently working with another buyer/seller.

I could probably keep going but I will stop here, again I 100% support this idea and would love to see it made a reality

There's one thing bad about this, though. Screenshots can be faked at any time using an add-on.
