A Petition for Name Changes.

No support, be legit and show the forum you can do smooth and easy trades then a name won't even be a problem. It would get confusing and people would be changing their names left right and center.

 

What about Capitalisations?

 

I think capitalisations should be allowed.

 

I agree with this. If someone wants to capitalize a letter in their name or something then make them pay for it. As long as they don't change their entire name.

 

Capitalisations allowed, at a set fee. No support to name changes, too much confusion and you don't need to change your name.

The only chance it could possibly ever work (even though I still wouldn't support) is to be able to see past names of people who have changed.

And if you read my original post, I was aware of that. This was simply user input.

And the people have largely spoken. Confusion seems to be the general consensus, and I accept that outcome. I can live with my name, there is no worry there, I just figured more people would be interested in seeing things talked about with this.

Despite this being on the DNS list, this has been discussed (albeit briefly) earlier - we'll think about it.

My proposal -

Allow only name changes in the way of capitalization or spaces, something that doesn't completely change the name. Make people pay a set fee that would not count as a donation but as pay for a service of Sythe. There are more people content with their usernames than not, and changing entire names can present security risks unless strictly monitored.

If you do allow complete name changes limit it to like once per account or do a 'background check'. If there are any outstanding scam reports of course a name change should not be granted until either the report is cleared thoroughly.

 

Okay Verts, here it is.

I am not proposing an open change of names at the drop of a pin, but a thorough investigation system similar to that of infraction appeal.

There would be a subforum for Name changes, a guidelines thread outlining those eligible to apply, an application form, and a committee to determine whether or not to accept or reject the name change.

Possible guideline(s):
a. No prior serious infractions
b. Member for (2,3,...x) years
c. Poses no confusion to society


After applying with the set form, the voting would be cast by the committee to determine whether or not he is eligible. Upon review by an admin, the change would be brought about with the previous username posted as his title underneath the current.


I find this to be an easy way of allowing some more leniancy toward name changes, and would not confuse people in the least.

With this, there could be an approved section list of all name changes with past and CURRENT names so people could do a quick glance if in doubt of someone to see if they appear.

I'm in two minds, I understand fully why the rule is in place and it makes sense that it is, when someone complains I'm like "just live with it make a new account etc etc", but with the same breath - I'd have my name changed if it were allowed.

It's the same with Runescape, people chose shitty names and they disallowed it for so long, but when they released it, it wasn't that big of a deal. Now, of course that's way off scale at once a month. But if a user was permitted one name change in their Sythe 'career', then I don't think any major confusion would be caused.

Capitalisation is definitely a must, though. It's not changing the name and therefore doesn't even fit with the name changes being confusing.

I think having a committee as mentioned by OP is a bit excessive though. Personally, if you've never been temp banned for infractions or any other reason and you've been an active participant on Sythe for a few years then I think you should be entitled to a change, if your name is deemed unprofessional, a bit like the staff rules.

Maybe a place on the profile to view a previous name?




I'm just biased because I'd like a name change, there are probably far more flaws in the idea. I'm sure I could live with it.

I've seen a lot of people say this, but if you came to sythe to do business, why did you not go with a more presentable name? Also, why does your name make it harder for you to do business? Imo, it doesn't look bad.


My first post was mainly directed at OP because, no offense, but I've only seen him like two or three times in the past year. Why is it so important for you to have your name changed? I can understand why you'd want one, but if you don't use Sythe that often, why do you need one?

 

I hate my name but i find it irritating that mods and staff can change theirs, i honestly think NO BODY should be able to and people should stick with one thing. That or make a alternate account (with no account interaction ect all within the rules) and deal with the lack of posts shitty join date and unusable vouches.

If people were allowed to change their names they should be FORCED to have a UI ( i think thats what they call it here) with formerly known as _____ near their avatar for a minimum of 6 months. Similar to what "Frenzy" had when she changed her name. Honestly name changing is just murky bs and confusing to deal with, so many people want name changes (and have for years) the day that this happens (if it does) no body will know who anyone is!

 

To TV, I have been very inactive with college and all. But I have returned from retirement of runescape, and this name change isn't just for me, it's a possibility for others who dislike their name.


I know people say just deal with it etc., but really a couple of name changes for unprofessional names would not harm the community in any way. Especially if there was a note made on the account of prior name.

 

I'd like it to be able to alter your name (change capitalization, spaces, etc.)
I've been wanting to get rid of the _ in my name. Other then that, a name change would make it very confusing for other users and I don't support that.
