A Petition for Name Changes.

There are old school members on this site that I believe have earned the right to a fair name change. I think a rule should be implemented that if you have no past record of scamming or abuse on this site, after 2 years you are permitted (1) name change and one only.

I started playing this game when I was 13 years old and thought v--own4g3--v was a cool name. Now I don't even have that account and find it a large annoyance and deterrance in trades. People doubt me because of a seperate name in game, it's not easily recognizable, and it would not cause damage. This is something that should be considered as only for necessities, not something that people would be doing every two weeks. Any thoughts?

And I know this is on the do not suggest list, but I feel that at least some user feedback could help push moderation into considering it. If it costs me an infraction so be it.

 

I've thought over it and I think I'm gonna have to retract my support for this. I didn't think of a certain circumstance.

Case to case is exactly what is being asked for. Even possibly having a sub-forum in disputes for name changes, and then possibly having an application process for the name change, a history of your account, guidelines, etc. It could be done in a fair and non-confusing way!

 

I greatly support this. I like the idea of the 'after 2 years' thing. I made this account when I was like 12, and I thought it was pretty cool. I hate it now.

OT: I think its a great idea. 2+ years wihout a ban shows a loyal, dedicated member, therefore IMO they have the right to atleast 1 name change.

No support. Staff members, yea sure if needed or deemed necessary.

 

No support. If you're new, make a new account. If your an old user, changing your name would cause potentionally dangerous confusion which is why it's originally prohibited. If you're old and you have no renown or market experience (meaning its not so dangerous to change your username), make a new account, a join date doesn't make a difference.

You claim a join date makes no difference when that simply isn't true. A member of 6 years is going to be looked upon a lot more highly if they have a clean record than a member of a month. You can't even make an argument against that, it's simply folly.

 

Why would you need a great record if you're not already active in the market? And if you're not already active in the market, then there's no reason you can't create a new account and tell your little buddies who you are under your new alias. If you WANT to get active in the market after 6 years of no activity then you're already sketchy on my eyes and several other market users for your sudden interest in buying and selling (exhibit A: Pen coming back after years to randomly start buying party hats, and then scamming a blue phat)

 

Some people have quit runescape and returned to the game. Regardless of whether or not I appear sketchy to you, if I'm not widely known around the community then having a name change would be of no difference.

Ultimately people are going to disagree that don't need name changes simply because they don't see purpose in the risk. This is understandable, but would you really want to lose seniority on a pretty well-established site when you have done nothing wrong on your account?

 

I made it to where I am (suspended Global due to no home Internet for the month) with my personality and intelligence, not with my username, and I'm confident I could do it again on a fresh account. You just want a name change to suit your desires, meanwhile saying "fuck the consequences the mods and market users have to put up with as a result". It's not fair to those who are content with their usernames, and understand a cool name doesn't get you places on this forum

 

I don't really support this, despite having gotten a name change myself before it became popular/outlawed.

It causes too much controversy, as well as problems for the staff and other users.

 

Well they could make it anyone could see you've changed your name, and see your previous username. I don't see how this could cause any confusion, a lot of other forums allow name changes, and it really isn't that big of a deal. It would please people who registered a very long time ago (like myself) who absolutely hate their name.
The argument about join date not meaning anything is a lie, someone with a 6 year join date would look a lot more legit than someone with a 1 month join date.

 

^ I agree. Simply have the old name in a subsection right underneath it. And people making an argument against it are acting as if anyone on the forums will be open to it. There would be an application process with thorough investigation and possibly a voting system in place.

I do not believe this is a good idea, just due to the fact it would cause an immense amount of confusion.
A positive suggestion in regards to the Name Change confusion factor would be the ability to see a User's previous username/s as pk the cow stated.

I fucked up five years ago and learned the live with the consequences, so can you. No support, it's too easy to fuck around especially on other sites, time is not a factor of someone becoming more trustworthy look at people like Synful for example.
