World 1 now P2P

Any reasoning/news behind this from Jagex?

Many of the worlds got changed to members due to the majority of active players being member accounts.

Evidently W1 was one of the worlds that was changed.

Just seems stupid though since world 1 is traditionally f2p and it's a bit sad to see even though i'm p2p and it doesn't effect me at all

 

Hmm i haven't noticed the change, I always thought world 1 should have been members, Ive been a member since 02.

 

F2P players are lucky they can play for free anyway, I'm not bothered if they lost a few worlds

Jagex is lucky F2P players do play. Most of jagex' revenue is of advertisements nowadays, barely anything is via p2p subscription.

 

and playing f2p absolutely sucks!

Stupid idea jagex... w1 was the most popular F2p world and had always been.

Don't forget they are notorious for selling personal information to marketing companies as well and half those emails we randomly get are from websites jagex sold emails to.

 

Lol.. World 1 was f2p trading world for years.. Jagex just ruining everything now.

Bullshit, the majority comes from membership subscriptions. The revenue from advertising barely covers the cost of running the FTP servers.


I also don't see how this is about Jagex trying to make more money...how does changing around what worlds are FTP make them more money?


Oh and the bit about selling player info is also bullshit...

 

Read their ToS you agree that they can provide your information for advertising purposes...

Their income from subscriptions is far more but this is still a method they are using for revenue. A lot of companies have actually started integrating facebook, twitter, etc. to collect personal information on people and sell the rights of it to companies. Many of these overseas companies don't follow the privacy laws the US and westernized countries do so if this information is provided overseas its not really breaking any laws. Do you really think facebook log in was implemented simply for ease of access? You're giving the company your demographics, ethnicity, age, social preferences, etc.

If you don't believe me go read their ToS and see for yourself they are allowed to provide your information to other companies and the information is not stored in the USA.

Changing the major f2p worlds to p2p is a small step into turning the game into full p2p. Eventually the game will become full pay to play this is most likely just a small test to see reactions. Eventually when all f2p worlds are gone they will start moving advertisements into ways members can see them, most likely not how it is now but they eventually will find a way.

Someone showed me a video of rs3 maybe they will try making this into a current play style MMO and want to have a mandatory pay to play method and might be testing how it works on rs2.

tl;dr if they pass it to paypal, they are free to share it with whomever they wish.

tl;dr your information can be anywhere in the world.

Obviously they don't flat out say they sell your information but anybody with a brain can put it together will relative ease.
