2006scape how many will play?

They game will die if they don't fix xp rates, and the content development will be non existing so sadly I don't think it will last.

 

A lot of people are going to play however, everyone talks about old rs because they like to call them selves an 'old school player'. When the fact is, yes old RuneScape was good then but the changes RuneScape went through was actually good. In my opinion RuneScape started becoming shit when they started changing graphics of barrows armour etc. I also think people are going to get board of training on rs2006. So we will see, who knows?

 

I've tested 2006scape before hoping for that spark of nostalgia, yet none. It doesn't feel "official" and real. If Jagex would host a seperate server, I can't imagine how many will come back to play. Like others said, any private server has the possibility of being shut down. If I were you, I wouldn't donate a large amount.

I'm skeptical to say the least. I want to play it but at the same time I don't because I don't want to invest time into a game that has the possibility of being shut down.

On topic - I believe the game will last if they can keep up with server maintenance and player demand. Player demand meaning the amount of players that will be playing the game. If they can keep at least a couple thousand people playing the game will grow.

From what herd Jagex is already in the process of removing 2006scape as soon as its launched. They are viciously removing video makers content of Private server gameplay and charging them with copyright if not removed.

IMHO Private servers serve no purpose other then to instantly obtain skills and best gear for PvP/PvE. You will always or at least I always feel that since of "the owner can take this down with no regards to the players". Player base is always larger on the official game anyways.

After perusing the forums and checking out the development posts I think it has a lot of potential. They have completed the coding for A LOT more stuff than I would have guessed. I thought it was going to be like 1 city released every few months and was afraid the slow going pace would scare off the playerbase but they are moving quickly. Most skills are completely done already (agility for one isn't yet) and they are ticking off the minigames one by one. I think that people will stick with the xp rate of 1x and the grind because they did it the first time, why not again?

It will be slow going for sure, but being in a fresh new economy is going to be interesting and I believe pretty fun. I started thinking about mining and then realized I couldn't just go pick up a rune pickaxe, someone had to get the smithing to make it. That excited me, bartered goods, w2 trading, etc.....Not just for the nostalgia but just something to work towards that I enjoyed. Who knows, maybe it will fail and people will stop playing but the devs seem pretty rock solid in their work and in their confidence that they are legally safe.

All-in-all, I am hopeful. I know some people say "don't donate too much, don't hope too hard, don't expect greatness so you won't get let down" but sometimes you have to put your neck out there and be hopeful. Life would be boring if we didn't and if I get burned for putting so much confidence into this, then lesson learned, but until that happens, I will feel like part of something great and rewarding, and if it does end up being a massive success, all the better.

 

In an interview with one of the chief nods they said they've already had enough money donated to run the server for 4 years! The decided factor for me will be the xp rates.
