This is the thread to document my current build. Ill be posting pictures as I go as well as any future upgrades.





Specs:

GTX 680 SLI (I was thinking about upgrading but for now it's not worth it, maybe once Maxwell comes out.)
Rampage IV Extreme
i7-3820 with Noctua NH-U14S
Two Samsung 840 Pros in RAID 0

Real overkill but my e-peen needs to be satisfied.

He gave feedback, that's what you asked for, you even said any.
It's an awesome build, only thing that I find weird, most people get 680's and sometimes 690's in $2k builds, you only got a GTX 670, not saying it's bad, it's balanced system.. And I think on a $2k build you should consider a LGA 2011, ivy bridge-E's are coming.. will support 2011.

 

Haha, it's a joke between me and Ryan he helped me with some of it. Ill be sure to look at 680/690s along with the LGA 2011s.

 

Nice build. Just a few suggestions:

1. You don't need a SSD mounting bracket, the case will support your ssd.
2. 1000W is a little overkill for a single-gpu setup like yours. It's also only S80 Plus Bronze. Take a look at the HX750: [link]. It's S80 Plus Gold and even a little cheaper.
3. Is there a specific reason you're getting a gtx 670 4GB version? If you have a specific reason, great go for it. If not, instead of spending $450 on that get a better card like the gtx 680 or HD 7970 for almost the same price.

1: yes he does, that case is the same one that I have and it requires the mounting bracket.

2: he plans on ultimately upgrading to a dual, if not even a triple GPU setup in the near future, so I suggested he look at Something a little larger than a 750W

 

Updating the list a bit.

Got a better CPU fan, added some peripherals the keyboard I'll upgrade later, and a better version of the same case.

Going to look into the 680s and the LGA 2011s.

 

1. It appears to have 2.5" adapater, so he wouldn't have to buy one. Look at this: [Video]

I'm not sure if you misplaced yours or it wasn't included, but it does seem to come with a 2.5" adapter (and it should, considering it's high price tag).

2. Oh alright then. He'll need more if he isn't doing a single GPU setup.

 

I don't recall mine coming with an adapter at least, I could possibly be mistaken though. It's been over a year since I built the system.

 

Due to the suggestions here I upgraded some shit.

Got a GTX 680, LGA 2011, a new motherboard to support the LGA 2011, and new RAM to support the motherboard.

Looks nice but I recommend going for a gtx 680 lightning, I got one today and it boosts to 1202mhz out of the box. I was able to overclock it to 1385mhz @ 60c and I can't even hear the fans

The HDD is pro.. But why do you want it? You have a 256GB SSD! So drop the HDD to a Seagate Barracuda and get the i7 3930k it is a hexa (6) core cpu that will last you longer, and is better.
Your SSD isn't good, get either the Samsung 840 PRO or the OCZ Vector/Vertex 4.

 

I would suggest you look at an i7-3770k core, a Samsung 840 series SSD, and possibly look at replacing your HDD with a 1TB version, they aren't too costly.

 

If he got the 1tb version it would cost him $120 more. From personal experience a 500gb second drive is more than enough if you have a 256gb ssd, I have the same setup. For the cpu I don't see anything wrong with it, the 3820 is like the 3770k except you can use it on an lga 2011 mobo. It can still be overclocked and everything but he gets the advantage of being able to upgrade cpus later without having to buy a new motherboard. I wish I did that when I first built my pc

 

Not going to downgrade to a LGA 1155. With the 2011 it will be easier to upgrade later without getting a new mobo. Going to upgrade the SSD to a Samsung 840 250gb. With the point about the 1TB HDD I have so many externals laying around I don't really need it. Ill look into it and see how much more it is though.

 

The 3820 is a good CPU, I've personally overclocked mine to 5.0ghz stable, but lowered the clock to 4.6 to preserve the longevity of the chip as the voltages are lower.

 

Man, don't get it wrong!
This HDD isn't needed, if you have a SSD, you don't need this HDD, WHY?
This HDD is made to replace a SSD, lower price/GB, MUCH Slower performance and boots.

 

You're so far off it's not even funny.

The SSD is used as the boot drive. This is where Windows and a few select programs/possibly games will be installed
The HDD is purely for storage purposes and does not affect the performance OR the boots.
