Thread title request system

While talking to Dj on msn he brought up how he didn't like how thread title requests are currently handled, so I thought for a bit and came up with an idea.

I'm not sure how easy it would be to implement, but here it goes anyway.

I think we should have a thread title request system much like how the usertitle requests and such are handled, the user would just go to the page, put in what they want their title to be, and a moderator with sufficient permissions would approve or deny their request.

It would be much more simple and wouldn't clog up out RaSp with title requests, which requires us to stop dead in our tracks when doing spam reports and do a tedious title request.

Let me know what you think, it was just a spur of the moment thought.

 

Would be nice, mainly just because I see people report other threads for their price of gold being more than the normal. I refuse to change the title until the OP actually reports it. I find it dumb that we have users CONSTANTLY nagging us to change their thread title. Then you go through RaSp and 1/2 of them are people waiting for their title to be changed.

I like the idea that way it's similar to how we made the "report a ban evader" section.

 

If there was a designated section, people wouldn't get confused over how to change it, too.

I think it's all positive really, the only question is how is it implemented. If it can be, I'd like to see it added.

 

Is it not possible to allow the users themselves to change their own titles? They can edit the OP, so why can't they be given access to changing their own thread title? To clarify, I mean without requiring approval.

 

Support! My thread still says im 25+ vouches and im at 45 vouches now. Dont wanna spam a mods inbox with those small changes so i would love to see a thread title section.
Best solution is to let the ops change the title themselves

 

i do like the idea of having something like this put into the website.

The report button should be for reporting things, not used for personal "Gain" persay.

Requesting a thread title to be changed, and it taking a while isn't the end of the world, however it would be very helpful to sythe members to have a place they can post specifically and have a thread title changed.

 

I think this would be an awesome system, and it would definitely help out the staff. As DJ and corey said, thread title change requests do clog up the Rasp forum, and sometimes it does gradually get a bit frustrating to go through each one editing the thread titles/icons. So if there were a system in the ModCP where thread title requests would pop up, maybe even with just a format like this:

[Section] - [Title Requested] - [Thread Link]

That would be really cool. On another note, is it at all possible to have a thread title approval system?

 

Alternatively they could allow OPs to change their thread title... It is a default vBulletin feature. I don't see why it's not enabled.

 

Well if you aren't going to allow people to change it themselves, then that would be the next best thing. I don't know the reason why title changes aren't allowed, but should be a good reason?

 

We don't allow people to change their own titles for the simple reason that they can use it for malicious purposes, such as falsely putting [Ex-Moderator] and what not in their titles. Yes they could just make a new thread, but it wouldn't be as beneficial because they'd lose all the posts in their old one and what not.

Having normal users edit their own title is not an option, so I think this would be the best alternative.

With regards to whether or not it can be done, I mean, it should be able to be done. If you can make a system that automatically changes a usertitle with the click of a button, you should be able to make one that changes a title. I'll PM this thread to Matthew/Govind and see what they think.

As we have said the problem is how many times people request a title change every other day. I'd say maybe limit it to once a week since some request price or vouch counts all the time.

 

I disagree with limiting how often they can be changed. They should be able to request it whenever they desire.

Isn't this why the report system exists? I'm sorry but this isn't a very good explanation.

Users can put it in when they're trading with another user to provide a false sense of trust and then just take it out when they're finish. Or even worse they can put it in and scam in the brief period of time before the thread is reported or seen by a moderator.

It also allows users to easily resell they're accounts, I could keep changing thread titles to different stats after I sell them and nobody would know it was the same account. The victim would have a hard time proving it was that account that was bought when the stats are different.

 

I really support this idea. There is alot of old thread title which can be updated easier due to people wanting to keep old threads due to amount of views and posts and changing the title due to the change in Vouches; Donations etc.

 

Its better to stop it before it happens whenever possible.

With a title request system, it would just make the job so much faster and easier because it would be as simple as doing a quick review on the title and then hitting accept.

 

This is perfectly acceptable to me. Just throw a link to the page on the edit post screen or somewhere on the thread if it's your thread.
