Because people nowadays are into trashy drama.

"Guy saves man from tracks" is no where as dramatic as "This Guy is Doomed!"

The New York Post is absolute scum. It is a disgrace to journalism. They will do anything to sell an extra copy, whether it's exaggerating, inappropriate stories, or outright fabrication.

That is an absolute disgrace to the poor man and his family. There would be an uproar in the UK if that was published, an absolute uproar.

OP says he was struggling to get back up for 60 seconds. Judging by the picture it does not look like a hard task so is there more to the story? Surprised the station does not have some kind of security set up to avoid this. Lots of stations are able to warn the driver to stop in advance, if they had it and the guy really had 60 seconds there would have been no problem.

I don't think it is fair that the photographer is getting so much heat for not helping when there were probably a lot of others there that didn't help either. In all honesty knowing the guy got pushed on to the tracks I wouldn't go near.

Well, this was an awful way to start my morning. That's disgusting. Makes me wonder where humanity went. 60 seconds was definitely enough time to help the poor guy out.

    Fuck America. -.-

It's actually a pretty deep gap and trying to pull someone out can be very challenging. That's not to excuse the inaction of the bystanders as 60 seconds should have been plenty of time to help. The least someone could have done would be to tell him to lay down between the tracks. You have over 20 inches of clearance doing this in the NYC subway system.

I agree though, the cameraperson isn't really the bad guy here. The problem is the decision by the NY Post to publish it on the front page with the headline that they did.

Be realistic, how many people would actually risk their own lives to try to save someone in an extremely dangerous situation?

It is pretty retarted that they put the picture on the front cover of the newspaper though. New York Post is complete garbage anyways, so it doesn't really matter.

Sad that it's on the cover of the NY Post, but, I know I wouldn't try and help the guy out.

    1. Deranged guy around the area that might push me in there too
    2. The guy might pull me into the tracks because he's freaking out
    3. Plus, there's a fucking train coming and part of my body, head, arms, even torso is hanging over trying to pull him out

When it comes to the event actually happening, not many people would put themselves in position to get hurt.

Plus, the bystander effect comes into play. There's probably 20-30+ people there, and everyone is thinking that someone else is going to go and save him. Thus, no one is going to save him because they're all thinking the guy next to me will be the hero.

It's an actual physiological event, not some BS I made up. If you take a physiology class you'll learn about it.
