Would you like to live in true communism? not one of those countries that claim to be communist but yet have a dictatorship. A country where everyone has equality and people who contribute towards things get their share of it rather than capitalism where people like what they have so they do not want to share or have it taken from them. I was discussing this in my class today and ive come to the conclusion that true communism would not be so bad. In communism there is no government. No laws. everyone provides for things they want and there are no countries. it would all just be one place working towards general goals or things that the occupants might want. Everyone would have a basic amount of things and then if someone had more or was stealing and people caught on, they would be killed. I mean communism is like that after all. Sure we might not be so prosperous with communism, but i still feel like the world would be a way better place.
True communism demands universal equality. Humans are biologically inequal to each other. Hence, true communism cannot work with human beings. Edit: To answer your question, no, I would not like to live in a true communist society. I cannot settle for not having more. You can say that perhaps such a mentality was established environmentally through the capitalist society that I was born in, but I tend to agree with Sigmund Freud on such a matter - it's biological. Karl Marx would advocate the idea that the private property of a capitalist society is what creates our aggression (and he has numerous accounts in history to substantiate his claim); however, Freud would counter this by saying that the aggression that emerges from private property is a simple channeling of innate aggression. After all, how did the capitalist society develop in the first place? In the end, everything we see in society today is a manifestation, in some way or another, of our biological makeup.
At the end of the day I think communism would never work. Those that study for years to be doctors or lawyers that genuinely work harder than street sweepers would be paid the same as the plebs picking up rubbish for the government. I couldn't live like that, I'd think its unfair. The thing I like about capitalism is that your returns are based around how much effort you put in. Those who want to be bums get minimal money from the government so they can't afford flash things, which is fair imo.
Exactly, and when people all get paid the same, why bother even studying for doctor or lawyer. It just doesn't make sense. When people don't get motivated to become doctors etc, we will be short of them, thus making some kind of revolution. IMO.
It's not so, how you think. You still get a bit more than others, if you are a doctor or a lawyer. It's not that everyone gets the same payment, that wouldn't work. That was back in Germany, the time after the second world war, I think so. But with the other point and the poster above you are correct. It wouldn't work. In communism, it's all about equality. But that does not make sense, because the government is above the people? Am I right?
I wouldnt like to specifically choose a communist country, but I feel it wont be much different. I know people say how you are less free and all, but people get used to it and their life is like anyone elses. My country is a democratic country and people tend to vote for equality similar to communism. isn't China a communist country? I'm not sure, but if they are, then it certainly works well
Unfortunately while nice on paper, the people willing to exploit will always rise to the top, or rather that "human factor." Plus one major flaw within the communist plans was planned economies, and well, we all know how well those worked out. No, it is a capitalistic dictatorship.
My father, who worked under the communist government in Albania during the 70s and 80s, is now against communist ideals, and he told me a very true metaphor for capitalism - A big company fat cat can piss on you from his balcony, you can also piss on him, cant you? Although I believe that communism doesn't work in practice, only on paper as the post above me states, capitalism is also very cruel and merciless. This comes from my experience of working in my family business for years - I guess you could compare it to the theory of evolution...
Both have their negatives and positives, I personally couldn't careless. Some people go to be a doctor not just cause of the pay, but cause they enjoy doing it. If you love what you do, the pay is just the icing on the top.
You can't even make this argument, because every single planned economy has failed absolutely horribly.
Capitalism, to me, seems very fair and every man or woman has a chance to earn as much money he or she wishes to. In communism there is no incentive to work because another man that doesn't want to work will still get paid the same amount of money as you will. Just my personal opinions.
A people's republic, which is a limited free market communist state. Communism is more of social theory when you're using Marxian theory. What everyone here is referring to is probably Lenian communism. The heart of true Marxist communism is equality of society to prevent the eternal class struggle that is always present in a societal system that promotes levels of people. Communism is essentially, in theory, a post-scarcity utopia where everyone has what they need to survive instead of all of these people living way above their means as most do now. Consider the millionaire who bankrupted himself trying to build the worlds largest house and then threatens to fire all of his workers if Obama gets elected. Post-scarcity society will be much different than society now, so it would be very interesting to see what all of these people would do then.
