    Gaming: PC vs PS3

    So heres the deal:

Its due after 4 years, my parents are buying me a $1000 laptop.
    I have $1500 saved up.
    Total: $2500

    I have a PS3, worth $250.

Should I 'mix' my parents money and mine and buy a gaming PC with a $1000 GTX 690?

Or should I buy an alienware M17x with 32GB RAM, and a GT 680M for $2500

Or should I just play games on my PS3?

This way I can save my money, but I'm not sure it's worth spending $2500 on a gfx card or laptop for playing a few games, and waiting for the card to be outdated after a year, while the PS3 makes games that run on the system till the next generation of consoles comes out.

    Thoughts?

Please choose and tell me why.

Personally PC games go a long way, especially if you can use your mouse for precision. I'd go with the PC, it plays games, does homework, and does what PC's are meant to do.

If you want to game on a PC, build your own desktop. Otherwise stick with your PS3.

Do yourself a favor and don't buy an alienware. You'll get a better system for cheaper by building it yourself. There's plenty of tech savvy users on the forum who will help you select the parts, and even assemble the PC. Take a look at the tech section.

If you're a serious gamer, PC will always be better than console. Graphics are better, there's mods to most games that can easily applied. Overall, PC will always prevail over console in my opinion.

You should also keep in mind that PC games are 10x easier/faster for people to hack/cheat/glitch on. If that doesn't bother you like it does to me, then go with PC.

Just stick with your PS3 mate. It future proofs you for a while whereas with a PC you constantly have to upgrade it which will mean you spend thousands on something that you can have your PS3 do, which you already have.

This isn't actually true at all, I mean considering that hardware from 5-6 years ago can play modern games just fine.

Consoles do not play games with extremely high graphics.

There's a reason they never ported crysis one to Xbox. I have an Xbox and a PS3, and I'm well aware of their limitations. I would support the OP getting a gaming PC, as one, especially with 32gb RAM, should be good to play games on max settings for AT LEAST 4-5 years before REQUIRING an upgrade. Of course you may wish to look at minor upgrades, but your rig will be good for a longer period than the next gen of consoles will last.

instead of pissing away money towards a silly alienware at the fine price of 2500, you could piss it towards a Sager laptop for the same price. For this same 2500 dollars, though, you'll be getting DUAL gtx 680m's in SLI.... if you select the option. Good luck getting that out of an alienware for the same price. spend your money wisely.

FWIW, 32gb of ram is WAY overkill. Hell, you don't even need 16 gigs as there will be very few times youll ever actually use more than maybe 6 gigs of it. for gaming, 8 gigs is more than sufficient. Take it for what it's worth.

As said in above posts. Your best bet would be too build your own pc. Alot cheaper and better.

You can spend $1200 on a desktop you build yourself and play anything you want. No reason to get an over-priced laptop or pre-built pc.

I consider myself a tech savvy user; feel free to PM me. For the record as well, PC trumps all game systems and laptops (especially Alienware) in my opinion. It wouldn't hurt either to make a thread asking what parts are in your price range as others will gladly respond with suggestions, personal opinions, the whole 9 yards.

I guess it depends what types of games you want to play. There are a lot of games that you can play on PC but not PS3 and vice versa.

Well, the thing is, just because you can play a game in HD on your xbox or ps3 doesn't mean it's how it should be. Take Battlefield 3 for instance. Sure, you can play it on PS3, Xbox, and PC, but that's only because they dumbed down the graphics for Xbox and PS3 so they could fit the game on a disk and so they could run it smoothly. Skyrim is another example of this. The difference in appearance from a console to a pc is astronomical.

you dont need a 690, you can build a rig with an i5/8gigs ram/ssd/670 etc for like $1500 or something and itll max every game on the market.

    Alienwares shit.

Oh, this is not a competition.
PCs are way better than any console system.
The only way a console system is better than a PC in, is Performance for the Price. Like a PS3 is like 299$ for 500GB Assassin Creed III and DualShocker! That beats any other PC at this price point.
With that 2500$ I'm sure you can buy something better than a desktop, but, it's worth it if you're in need for the best graphic levels and the best performance.
    You, I suppose, can get a GTX 690 in a 2000$ build.
    Desktop>Laptop.
You shouldn't get any laptop unless you need it for portability.
