[Help] In need of an upgraded processor

Alright so here's what I'm looking at - current have the following parts:

Obviously my downfall is the processor, and I've come to realize that through games and various other programs.

My questions is: how much would it be to upgrade to a i2700k and a compatible mobo? and would that be all I need? :0

    Got some links
    http://www.microcenter.com/product/376491/Core_i7_2700K_35GHz_LGA_1155_Boxed_Processor
as for the mobo, I'm not entirely certain.

Thanks so much for the help guys :)
Any and all help would be awesome. Thanks again <3

The $200 for the processor, and anywhere between $100-$150 for a decent motherboard with overclocking capabilities. Plan to spend an additional $20+ for an aftermarket heatsink. Also why did you go with Sandy Bridge?

I bought the computer haha, so anything and everything in it is not my choosing. I got a great deal on it though so I'm not complaining. But yeah no clue about the Sandy Bridge.

How difficult is heatsink installation, though?

You're confusing me. So you have already a computer with the i7-2700k with a mobo, and want to swap those parts out with your FX-4100? Given you have an adequate power supply, all you need to do is swap out the mobo + processor like you said. Just as long as you follow the directions to install an aftermarket heatsink, you'll be fine.

My bad man. I mean I bought the original computer as it stands, and I'm planning on buying the i2700k and such. Not quite sure what sandy bridge is, but I don't know haha.

Any difference in it as opposed to a 2600k or anything similar?

Ivy bridge is just a newer version of the processor, for the i7 it's known as the 3770k. Not enough of an improvement to spend $30 more for it, so you're good.

Do you primarily play games? If so there is no need to get an i7. An i7 cost about $100 more and all it does over an i5 is the i7 has hyperthreading. If you're mainly playing games you'll never see a use for hyperthreading so it's completely useless to get.

I'd go for an i5 3570k (they're on sale at microcenter if you have one near you).

As far as mobos go I'm a fan of the asrock z77 extreme 4, or if you're able to fork our a little more money a higher end asus z77 mobo would be good.

I use it for cinema 4d so I'm pretty sure it'd come in handy. It's only $220 at microcenter anyway.
    Thanks for the recommendation :)

If you plan on OCing, grab a 3570k and an Extreme 4(running it atm, tis great.) if not just grab the non k version(3570).
