Sythe Secret Santa?

I was talking to Yankiee on Skype moments ago .. and we were talking about how Christmas is coming up and stuff. And then a thought went into my head about having a "Secret Santa" on Sythe.. This could take some work but I think with some effort and the right people running it, we could make it work. I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Some stuff I thought we should incorporate:

OMM/Mods to process gifts.
A set amount of members to participate.
A certain requirement to see member's legitimacy.

We could add things along the way.

Just would like to hear your thoughts on this.. would it work or no?

 

I have some ideas on how to make it work as long as a good amount of people would be willing to participate.

 

I don't support, I wouldn't participate. I don't have money to squander on something like this and I can guarantee it wouldn't go smoothly and not everyone would be happy. Despite the season, there are a lot of selfish people registered here, and its drama I'd rather avoid.

 

It's a nice idea but I doubt it would work considering across the internet there aren't many gifts you can actually give anyone.

 

Would it be better/work if we put a certain price limit?

Ex. <$20 ?

A secret santa IRL is where you'll put a few names into a hat kind of thing and then everyone draws out a name. For the person that they get they must buy a gift(s) for them and give it to them anonymously on Christmas.

 

Give money to future scammers, nah. Not even sure how this would work, there's a lot of members. Say you have to participate in giving cash and the amount of cash you put in, determines who you are pair'd with. I don't like the idea because it's just another worry factor on this site.

 

This wouldn't work, everyone will get mad when they give somebody 15m or so, then they get 7.5m. Great idea nonetheless, just think about small eliminating factors.

 

Why does it have to be virtual.........

I've participated in various real life secret santa's on other forums before, as well as reddit's, where you mail the gifts.

 

Yeah I would not do it if it was virtual. It would be pretty fun if we did a IRL one with mailing gifts.

 

Well like I said, the idea was a start, stuff like this could be added/modified for it to work. I think it'd be pretty fun with IRL ones.

 

Sythe pollyanna? Could be tough - nice idea and support, but I would like to see what the majority of others think.

 

I'm actually for this. But I don't think it'd work well because someone would be pissed and be like I coulda gotten that for cheaper.

 

Postage costs could be outrageously high if a person participating was the secret santa of a person that lived several countries away however.

I was thinking of a few people/team to run it, just a way to get the community involved together.

 

Ideas:
1. Have people from US send to US and Europe send to Europe, etc.
2. Have some sort of requirement of legitimacy/presence on sythe so that we have people that will actually send the gifts and not just random people getting free stuff
