What exactly are referrals ?

A way of showing to the general public how many people you've basically shown the site to and who have registered saying that you have "referred" them to this site.

No you don't get anything for referrals, as explained above it is just showing that you have referred someone to the site.
However at the moment there is a referral competition and you can in fact earn a prize
