Small forum layout change in markets

    Currently we have:

    Category (Market)
    --Forum (RuneScape Markets)
    ----Sub-Forum (Gold Exchange)
    ------Sub-Forum (Buying)

    etc.

What I suggest would literally take one click, and it would make the layout look a lot better:

    Category (Market)
    --Category (RuneScape Markets)
    ----Category (Gold Exchange)
    ------Forum (Buying)

I made a quick mockup to show you what it would look like, as well as what it looks like now:

    Current:

Currently Gold Exchange is a forum, and then has two sub-forums, Buying and Selling, respectively. There is no need for Gold Exchange to act as a forum (or Item Exchange, and several others, I merely used this one for the example). Make it a category, and then move the couple of random threads/stickies in each one to the actual relevant sections. No one is going to read the stickies that are posted in these "shouldn't be a forum" forums, because everyone just clicks directly on the Buying or Selling sub-forums instead. Many of the threads/stickies are also outdated.

I would also like to say the titles and descriptions could and should be updated, with many being completely rewritten to give it a more professional and organized look and feel, but that is for another day, another time.

Yes, it may make sythe look more professional, but is it really needed? I know that it probably isn't that hard to do also, but do the team have the time, and is it laid out like this for a reason? Yes. General Gold stickies for instance are placed in the Gold Exchange, where they aren't related to buying or selling, but both.

I don't really think it's worth the effort, it does look a little neater, but the way the forums currently are now are fine, so why fix something that isn't broken.

    1. Most of the threads/stickies in those areas are outdated, not very relevant anymore, and barely read.

    2. It would perhaps give a market moderator or global moderator a little initiative to go ahead and refresh some of the stickies by posting the ones that are still relevant, and forgetting about the ones that are not.

    3. 99% of the suggestions that get approved and updates that are made to this site aren't really needed, but that's not the point of a suggestion. This suggestion could be implemented by clicking on a radio button in the forum manager in the ACP. You could literally change the forums in question within a matter of minutes. Therefore the time concern and whether it's crucial to the site functioning is irrelevant.

Are you honestly telling me that 30 seconds in the ACP is too much effort? Again, 99% of the updates or changes on Sythe.org are not crucial to keeping the site running, rather, they improve the site in one way or another. It's not fixing something that isn't broken, it's a small update that would improve the existing layout.

I don't mean to sound rude, but it's extremely irritating when half the suggestions in this forum get replies with that exact attitude. It's the suggestions forum for a reason, if it was crucial and vital to keep the site alive, we wouldn't be suggesting it, it would already be implemented. The only thing you need to keep this forum running is a hosting provider, and the forum software, beyond that there isn't a single suggestion out there that is "truly needed."

It's not just that, it's also the rest of the Sythe community would need to adapt to these changes as well. And you don't sound rude, but I think you need to understand that other members are allowed to not agree with your suggestions, we're just as much members of this website as you are.

I have no problem with people who disagree, my main point was merely I don't believe that "it isn't necessary" is a valid reason to not support something. For instance, Matthew just changed a small thing to the new external URL thing, which wasn't at all necessary, yet he did it instantly (just an example).

I don't really see how it would need to be given time for people to get used to it. Most people don't even realize that Gold Exchange, Item Exchange, etc are forums, because most just click directly on the Buying or Selling sub-forums (bypassing the threads/stickies anyways).

My suggestion would make it look more organized, shorten the length of the list of forums, and get rid of the dead space that isn't utilized at all. They're essentially using them as categories at the moment, my suggestion is simply to make it official by actually changing the settings with a click on a radio button in the ACP for said forums. There's absolutely no downside to updating it.

I would also love to rewrite 90% of the titles and descriptions for the forums, but like I said previously, that is for another thread, another time. I figured I would see where this suggestion would go first, because if this isn't even of interest, there's no way they would be willing to actually update anything else.

It's touching that you care enough to make new accounts just to post suggestions, Dorito.

I do what I can to be constructive. It's sad to see this place knowing the potential it really has.

Oh, useless ban evader. I suppose it would make the site more formal looking, but what's wrong with it the way it currently is?

Dorito is an old Sythe OMM who I believe scammed for 20m? I can't remember the details.

And I think the suggestion will stay around until it's accepted or denied, I mean, it's still a suggestion so it surely wouldn't be abandoned because the member who suggested it is banned.

I don't think it's necessary, Sythe members are already adapted to the current layout, but this is just fixing what isn't broken.
