Please Help If you know much about discontinued Items etc!

Okay, so I don't play Runescape anymore. I used to play it ALOT but I don't have any interest in the game like I used to. However, I am using this to my advantage and trying to profit from it. That's what I want to do since I don't even enjoy the game anymore... This is what I need help with;

I am going to buying an Item(s) and not log into the game or even touch for ATLEAST a year.. but what Items or Item can I buy that will make me profit in the long run?

I can buy ANY Partyhat and just keep it in my bank and wait till It's price rises.. but realisticly will this happen or will Partyhats crash?

So what Items are the best to just keep in my bank a long time so I can sell for profit in the long run. Thankyou!

 

Generally for a good profit margin your talking 2 or 3 years, I would probably hang out until after EoC comes out, this will give you time to analyse the markets post update and see what the situation is long term.

 

No item is worth holding onto unless it's discontinued because naturally items will be introduced into the market. This is what I've analyzed over the past five years anyhow. So my suggestion would be to buy a handful of Easter eggs, or pumpkins because they seem to have quite the price fluctuation.

 

Thankyou. I can see Easter Eggs/Pumpkins/Santa Hats all being a good item to profit with considering Holiday events etc.. So it wouldn't be too much of a hassle to sell.

However, I've been looking into buying Partyhats to see whether they are worth investing in. Mind is completly unmade and kafuffled atm.

I'm also considering sinking a bill into something.

 

I am not familiar with these fish masks.

I have heard about them though being discontinued.. and being a prize on the Squeal of Fortune game but apart from that I have no knowledge on these.. Are they in high demand or something?

Also can you please elaborate on why wergali potions please? Thankyou brother... Ironically, even though I have had 7 years experience on Runescape I am 'new' to the 'new' updates etc.

Long term you might be seeing an increase in the GP value of the rare(s) that you invest in, but GP has a tendency to decrease in RWT value over time and thus rares have stayed at more or less the same $ value for quite some time now. Not a good investment imo, you also risk rollbacks on any large investments and moving the GP.

I would much rather invest the money in Bitcoins, read about them and check their value graphs.

 

Phats typically rise and fall together.

Fish masks were released on the SoF to be discontinued and are now hoarded by people expecting them to one day reach the price of real rares. I call them real rares because they are just that; rare. Fish masks have been stockpiled and merched since their conception, everyone wanted to get a piece, some people have hundreds.

They could one day rise to extreme values but due to the quantity its unlikely they'll ever be rare. However, they are discontinued.

Somewhat of a gamble but i'd say the odds are in your favor. People are hoarding/destroying them like crazy.

 

This, except I can't say the same about bitcoins as I have no experience with them.

When free trade came out, purple partyhats were 800-900M, and that was roughly $800 at that time. Now it's still around 900M, but GP is valued at 0.3-.35/M atm, which makes it worth around $300.

It's not worth the risk. The crucible dupe messed up prices, anything can happen. Jagex can remove free trade, jagex could introduce something that would affect rare prices forever.

With Runescape slowly going on a downward trend, the risk you take, for minimal, if even any at all, profit just isn't worth it.

Rares don't keep up with the RS market, if GP's really cheap, rares slowly follow, just not fast enough.

Long term investment is dying in RS. I think due to the fact no one sees rs as having a bright future anymore. The fear of logging out for a year with a $500+ item then logging back in and no one wants to buy it is fairly real.
If your looking to quit RS just watch gold prices and when they are high just sell the cash you have.

if you were to choose an item to invest in i would say phats, pumpkins or easters.

 

Basically what everyone above me said. However, IF, rs3/EOC RS sparks a new interest in Runescape, and it's playerbase picks up once more, you never know, it may be worth it. Personally, it depends on what you are willing to risk, as yes, at this point it is a risk. If you find 50m a lot of money, then it's futile, if you find you have 1-2B you don't mind losing, if that were to happen; then invest in a Phat.

 

I have a 4B bank at the moment so It's not really much to me at the moment. I mean I don't ever play so even risking the 4B isn't a big issue to me.. I just want to try and use my effort to not play the game to my advantage and try make some money.

 

The point is RSGP is losing RWT value faster than rares are increasing in GP value. So - anything you keep on your account longterm loses you money.

 

Fish masks. Might takes 10 years to be worth something, but eventually it will.
