New layout! (need some help D:)

I need something to go behind the layout, like a background, I just don't know what to put there.
Any ideas? keep in mind that i'm no expert, I only do this on my free time, so keep instructions simple :s.

-Changed the yellow to purple to avoid eye injury while looking at it. (;D)
-Lowered the amount of blur behind the main boxes to avoid as much of the "cut-off" as I could.

The glow is being cut out ;/
The green and yellow behind the white text looks too light.
Makes it hard for me to read the text somehow.

Nice layout! As Leaf said, the glow is being cut and it's visible on the top and sides - maybe reduce the glow settings a little to fix that up. Also, the colors you chose for the background of each text box are really vibrant. Thats not necessarily a bad thing, but that is why it's a bit distracting to read the text. About the text, for me personally I'd rather center the text in the boxes (it looks cleaner to me), but that's just my preference. I really like the way the text is organized through the Service, Settings, and Contact categories.

I don't know why you might want a background though, most standard layouts are transparent, and your's looks pretty professional without a background. Overall it looks pretty great mate

 

Thank you for the detailed input! I am working on making the text easier to read without being blinded, and i'll also fix the blur as you mentioned.

 

Throw a classic "uniquely" shaped bg vector on there and add some thematic coloring.

@Jiwi the BG is not centered which makes it look "un-professional" mayne. Make it le centered and then it should look better. ^^

OP, a good way to practice is to find a render that hasn't been cut out and practice cutting it out yourself with the pen tool, that's how I practiced with it originally. You'll be a master in no time and discover that pen tool is very useful.

another good thing to practice your pentool with is take characters like southpark or animes and practice vectoring those. They are made in such a way that it's super easy to do, but it helps a lot with practice.

Also, for the layout. I like the colors. but some of the buttons look weird. Such as the one with the MSN on it. Maybe have contacts separate and not on a button.

 

The contact buttons are slightly larger, and the other ones look odd because all of the text is different sizes, I will fix that tomorrow as well.
