This is a really good idea and would be incredibly handy with that. It would make the lives of MM and OMM a lot easier as you could simply add them to the chat to conduct the trade.

It's likely accurate considering promises of VB4 which has not come and then now they had that skin competition and they said it would likely be out at the end of that month, more disappointments.

I'm surprised a verdict hasn't been reached on this, it would eliminate imposters and help prevent scamming. Definitely support.

I want to sum up a few perks and problems for quick reference for people new to this thread:
Pros are as mentioned in the OP and generally throughout the thread by people who support; it would eliminate impostors and help prevent scamming like you said.
Cons are that it would strain the server, so it'd need to be hosted on another server. Said server would need to be reliable. Someone would have to pay for the second server. The owner of the server would need to be approved by EVERYONE, staff and the community, it wouldn't do to let someone untrustworthy for any reason host this feature. Lastly, logged chat files would need to be encrypted so that not even Richard would have access to them, and only the profile of the users who shared the conversation could recall the logs for scamming evidence or other reference, etc. This last part, I have no idea of the logistics to make it work. The rest would simply require a very serious discussion involving all staff and a good sampling of Market users.

 

I definitely think that something like this would boost the popularity of Sythe, not to mention how much easier everything would be. Do you have any clue how much something like this would cost? Server wise.

 

The concern isn't really the cost of the server, as you can find stable and fast servers for relatively cheap. The problem is protection on the server. DDoS protection for example, not to mention a ton of custom stuff that might need to be done in order to jimmyrig it onto sythe without causing exploits and security risks etc. That kind of protection can be spendy.

 

Yeah, but adding the security and extra time in for something that can be such a good liability is worth it amirite?

No word on whether it's going to be implemented or not. So far most of the staff appreciate the idea and what it attempts to accomplish, Verts actively found a nice, already-published program that fits the bill perfectly, so we're just waiting on vb4 for the final verdict.

Little late, but I still pledge my support to this. Having to find a common IM client between two parties is quite annoying.

 

My thoughts entirely. It seems as though this what be a great idea, but in the long run, would everything still be set in stone?

 

What does being set in stone have to do with the stress implemented to the server? As suggested, this chat system would be hosted on a separate server to avoid adding further lag to the forums.
