First time ever doing a sig

Basically I got Gimp last night and did these two in a few hours of playing with it, seems like it could be really cool. Any tips and or ideas?

Not bad. Try looking at some tutorials

 

They're okay for for first timers. I would recommend looking up tutorials on youtube like mentioned above.

 

Wow, it looks like you've got a solid concept down with the second image, you're doing pretty awesome for just your first time. I think from here, you should work on highlighting the focal (where you want the audience's eyes drawn to) of your tags. Remember that experimenting is generally a great way to learn, and reading up on tutorials is always helpful.
