    Extremely disappointed at OGV rank

    Hiya,

The OGV rank is shamefully the lowest that service has gone, it was meant to never be for a rank, for a symbol or to be some kind of way of being a trust status, which that rank will now be, It wont be long until people start using it in selling tags.

I'm highly against the addition of that rank - and I'm interested in the thought process in adding it. The only way I could see why anyone would actually want the rank is to boast.

I agree and I've seen people using it in selling tags even before it was a rank. But I know most of the staff will most likely say it's up to the individual user to realize that the rank does not symbolize trust. Which is not the case for many of the users.

I'm with you, the team shouldn't be about the rank but more about allowing users who have spare time that want to help out in some way without being a mod.

Exactly this, this is what it was like at the beginning and always should have been - my time as OGV leader was not great due to my inactivity at the time and me not enforcing the 0 tolerance on removing those who didnt help verify the guides, but thats because there was no guides.

The Verifiers has always meant to be about altruistically helping out sythe.

I see the rank being a reward for users who do give up their spare time to help out without being a mod. But I understand that users might be not see the rank as a bonus - but as the main reason they want to become a OGV.

Yeah, I don't care much for it either. It's not really necessary for them to have a badge, is it? Surely, one could just list the OGVs, and not bother with the badge? It's not going to be long before people start putting dem [OGV] tags in.

You of all people should know some of the issues with the OGV Karl. It's inappropriate/immature to make a rant thread before attempting to know the facts or reasoning behind it. I honestly don't care about the rank. I may even request its removal. But I think that it's a benefit to the team. Really, who is it hurting.

I would have thought having access to guides for free would be enough of an incentive to want to be OGV?

No. The primary goal of the OGV is to weed out shit guides. I've probably used one guide this year for a while because none of them work.

I don't agree with it either. As stated it will turn into a trust 'symbol', and when places in the OGV team are available again I fear people will join just for the rank. And as Jack said it should be a big enough incentive to have access to free guides. However it makes sense as people know who to give there guides to rather than just someone claiming to be from there. But then I think its their fault if they do that.

    Extremely disappointed at OGV rank

I'm not opposed the rank, however I'm not in favour of it. Personally speaking the rank looks horrid anyway lol, and I'd prefer not to have it displayed.

From a more professional viewpoint, yes, I can see how it can be used as a 'trust status' symbol. I'm not too familiar with the OGV rules, however I don't see the need for a rank at this stage. Maybe in the near future when guide sales/verification increases.

On the other hand, I can see how the rank will promote more active guides been made. I can guarantee you half of Sythe have no idea what the OGV means, or the fact that there is a Guide section. With the rank, it may help in omitting the message that Sythe is a place for guides to be sold, and there are members who are authorized to help in the process of verification.

That's just how it is in this community! Having a badge or just makes you look 'good' or 'unique'. Maybe there will be a rank one day like you wish but we can only hope!

    Extremely disappointed at OGV rank

People have been using [OGV] tags for a while now long before the rank was even created. The ogv in my opinion is useless for anyone to participate in. You are taking your time out to judge guides if they should be verified and some of these guides can be pages of crap, seems more like a moderators position if it requires a trustworthy user.

The rank a form of motivation if it keeps OGV members on the team longer then there is no harm in it. If its a trust issue most of the OGV I've seen are fairly trusted and are still being trusted with sought after guides which they get their hands on for free and have the ability to abuse.

It also helps differentiate an OGV the main problem seen in the guides section are people saying "I'll verify if it works" Atleast now with the rank its easier to differentiate an OGV and considering they seem to quit the team very quickly its easier to keep up with who is an ogv and who isn't without the need to constantly refer to a thread.

I don't see it as a problem. I think it'd help people actually know who's OGV or not as Punjabi said above. I can understand that it could symbolize trust but I think that should be up to the individual to actually do their research on the rank or they can see that it says "Official Guide Verifier".

NEVER should have been made a rank. OGV isn't for e-penises, so get rid of it now.

I like the rank maybe you should make it a fun rank of some sort however I disagree with this completely in my opinion OVG isn't something that should get a rank because they have one purpose to verify guides, and really anyone can get it if they have a good application for it for example jake123456789 had very low vouches/post count and he got it and would have the rank right now. In my opinion it is to easy to scam with that rank because it is easy to achieve.

I'm on the fence on this one.

I don't really see the need for an official rank. A lot of people helps the site in other ways, answering questions and giving advice (Like PS). You don't see them getting a rank for helping. OGVs already gets an incentive. If one of those schemes where you can make $100 per day with minimal effort actually work, you think they would pass up on that? (no offense intended). That's a free guide for them, of course in the process they would probably have to go through a lot.
