Free Graphics Subsection

Although the rule was recently changed against asking for free graphics in the marketplace, I feel like having a free subsection [of the marketplace] could increase graphics activity and help people hone their skills whilst getting regular orders at the same time.

I'm sure many people may argue that there are already shops in place that give free graphics, but the free marketplace would make it easier for those with free shops to be seen as well as make it easier on people seeking free graphics without having to search the threads and simply make a thread to get several options.

In addition, as advancement of skills is encouraged, asking for free graphics in this theoretical section just gives rising artists an opportunity to practice their skills based on someone's order. They can do it as they please, and rather than running a shop with orders and speaking to customers on msn as to what specific details they need for a longer period of time, these request threads would open up options for people to practice their current skill set, make someone happy with some new gfx, and help them to get better all at the same time.

I agree, and I think a subsection under the GFX marketplace would work great for this, also I could see a sticky up in GFX Gallery about this (something like "Want to practice and help out other members of the community?").

 

We should just remove the sticky. There isn't really enough activity to begin with to warrant a new section. Just my opinion.

 

The only thing that would have to happen for this to work would be that people can't request free graphics but shops specifically for giving away free graphics can exist. I don't think a subsection is really needed though as people can just advert their free graphic threads in the marketplace with ease.

Plus I feel an entire subsection for free graphics might damage the existing markets... e.g "Why should I pay when an entire section has them for free?"

My only worry about this suggestion is that there won't be much activity. From what I see, is that we should get a subsection for beginners to offer free graphics. With our GFX marketplace, we see a couple of Free Graphics Shops. So I don't know if it would have enough activity for a whole section..

 

Also these few free graphics shops have no shortage of people wanting some free graphics so there is no need for the subsection imo. They're fine offering them as is, in the marketplace.

Unfortunately most people are missing the entire point of the idea.

1.) Free requests are created too often and would flood the gfx market
2.) People offering free graphics don't feel like talking on msn to someone when they're making the sig for free.
3.) The section therefore creates jobs for free artists without having to be nitpicky while making said artists better and making people wanting free sigs even happier.

It's more or less an opportunity for people to get their requests out there to anyone in the section that wants a chance to improve their skills. I figured it improve not only the experience of people seeking free sigs but those creating them as well.

 

Before we had the sticky there was probably at most a few requests a week for free graphics, it was by no means a flood of requests. There just doesn't need to be another subsection in there. The graphics section is moderately active on the best of days. Just removing the sticky does all of that. It give people a chance to make free graphics and gives people practice. They don't have to talk to people on MSN, all a person has to do would be fill out a form and then they'll post the graphic. There just isn't a need to expand the section. The two middle sections should actually be combined because they're few posts in there.

 

1 - Requests are spam currently and honestly I think they should stay spam even if this did occur

2 - I know what you mean in this respect though, the creator wants to do what they want instead of deferring to the customer since the creator is getting no benefit from it apart from experience.

Ehh, there really isn't much activity in the graphics marketplace to start with. I don't really think its necessary to create a whole new subsection for free graphics.

 

I completely support. I am still teaching myself graphics, and one of the biggest things I struggle with is having goals to achieve. A section like this would provide people like me the perfect little tasks to work on while we hone our skills.
