Which DS to get?!

Hey, the last time I had a DS I was 13-14 and had the ds lite which was the best model at the time. Now i've gotten to the stage where I miss playing mario/pokemon so Im considering buying a newer DS. there's dsi/dsixl/3ds/3ds XL - which is the best out of the lot? Are there any more versions coming out that I should wait for?

Also can you still use flash cards like R4DS or something?

You can use an Acekard 2i on the new 3DS, as i've got one but you need a regular DS to update it, or you can just simply delay the system update till the Acekard team release an update.

If you're interested in the newer stuff, buy a 3DS or an XL (depends on what you prefer) as they play all regions of DS games, plus have some great stuff on the e-Store. (various Virtual Console stuff)

 

What you mean you need a regular DS to update it? I keep reading this and it isn't made clear.

I dont really mind the specifics but if the XL is a reputable i may aswell buy it. Does the new pokemon fit around the XL screen?

 

I don't know, but I assume it does. Try and find some reviews.
When Nintendo does a system update it stops the flashcart from booting, so you need to update the flashcart. If you don't update the flashcart first, you can't boot it meaning you can't run the firmware update file on the flashcart (because you can't access the filesystem). This is why you may sometimes need an old Lite or phat to update it to be able to use it on your 3ds.

Lite is my personal favorite. I'm really only into Pokemon, and I have the capabilities of playing my older favorite GBA games as well.

Maybe once a Pokemon game becomes 3DS only, or whatever the next handheld may be I'll upgrade, but for now the Lite is the best in my books. You can snag one up for like $30-$40, great buy imo.

 

Na man i don't think I'll be playing GBA games, especially with the avaiability of a flashcard. probs gonna see if the XL is comfortable before buying it.

 

I never really enjoyed the 3D aspect of the gaming, but the 3DS XL's screen size made things pretty enjoyable.

 

yah? do older ds games have a scaled down screen?

If you don't like the 3D you can always turn it off (in reply to Brendan).
The 3DS sizes DS games to fit the screen, but there is a function to keep the original resolution if you want.

Definitely the Nintendo 3DS. I think it's the best one out right now.

 

The native reslolution on the 3DS for the DS games is rather small, but the scaled up version isn't much different and still looks good, just did a comparison on my machine on Black 2.
