Why was this thread closed?

His thread lacks substance but it seems to be inducing conversation. The forum description is "anything off-topic", and I believe it falls under that, no? =| He is simply just bringing up a point. Imo, I think the "Zombie Apocalypse" thread should be closed as its a waste of bandwith... >_<

If anything, it should be moved to the section that the moderator thinks it should be it. Just my 2 cents.

 

it wasn't going anywhere. If anything create something to discuss if you want a thread like that. If threads like that was allowed everyone would just create a thread and put in a random statistic so they could get post count.

 

There was a thread like this called "Did you know people eat 8 spiders a year while they sleep?" Total bs obviously, it had 60 replies but it got closed mostly because it was a baseless claim and because the discussion boiled down to whether the statistic was right or wrong. If you're going to post a statistic, you need to back it up. Otherwise the "discussion" devolves into whether the statistic is right or wrong

 

Ok I suppose I can see where you are coming from. I just don't like when discussions get closed, if it can be avoided (e.g moved to spam instead). At the same time I also think the mod should put the reason the thread was closed.

 

Ok, I suppose I can see where you are coming from, makes sense. I believe the staff should put a reason for the thread being closed just as a courtesy to the OP/other members viewing the thread.

 

lol there was nothing wrong with my thread about people eating 8 spiders a year while asleep a few months ago..? and the way I phrased it made room for discussion unlike this blatant statement that there are 27m slaves.

You started the thread with a (false) assumption backed up with 0 evidence. So we had a bunch of people making stupid posts about eating spiders in their sleep. If that's what you want to call "discussion" then fine, I guess the thread should be reopened. I'd like to think we're capable of better discussion than that.

Also, the "27 million slaves" thing is at least somewhat true, though experts say the number varies between 12 and 27 million:

If someone wants to remake this slaves thread with a proper source, that should be fine. And if you can find a legitimate source about the 24 BILLION spiders that are eaten annually, then be my guest

It was just a random statement with no evidence to back it up, if we allowed this this then people could just make random posts like "Did you know airplanes are made of chocolate!?". That is just pure spam... However if you have some viable evidence that they are in fact chocolate, then it's actually rather interesting.
