How easy do you trust? How easy is it for somebody to lose your trust? To what extent can you trust a person?

I'm very interested in what you guys have to say about this, it's something that genuinely affects my life everyday.

    Looking forward to the input!

It normally takes me a while to trust someone.
98% of the time I don't trust anyone over the internet unless I've known them for a really long time. I have a few friends which I've known from a rsps back in 2008 and they're probably my best friends online.

Irl, it depends on background. It depends on how they act, what they do, how they do it. I always act gullible so I know if someone tries taking advantage of me(not in any wrong ways) and I factor that into how I trust them. I still have my doubts on friends that I've known for years irl.

    Over the internet, Never.

In real life, very seldomly. People are terrible in general, someone will always fuck you over, so you have to watch out.

I agree with this. I always think of what can happen before I do something and think of every way someone can fuck me over.

It's rather simple for someone to lose my trust. It depends what they did, how they feel about it and why though.

Over the internet, it's harder to gain my trust, but people have gained it.

Overall, I'm more cautious than ever, both IRL and on the internet. I know how people tries to take advantage of me and others. The worst part is trusting a psychopath, they will play music to your ears and let you hear what you want, they are great liars and usually are good at hiding the fact that they're a psychopath. They know how to approach you too. I knew one, in the end I learned from the mistake I had made, which I am glad about because I did get a good understanding of them. The thing about psychopaths is it's harder to distinguish their real motives if you don't know what they are. I'm not saying to be cautious and label everyone as a psychopath, but be aware that there are some terrible people out there.

Isn't it unhealthy to feel that you can't trust anybody though? Also, isn't it kind of upsetting how hard it is for people to gain your trust, when they never really did anything wrong in the first place? You're technically "judging the book by it's cover" based on books you've read in the past.

I wouldn't say it's "unhealthy", maybe harder to get sustain a relationship, but no health factors.

Also, it is easier to just trust no one, then starting everyone on a clean slate. If you get fucked over by 15% of the people you meet, and you meet 100 people a month, that is 15 problems you could have avoided if you acted cautiously to begin with.

Probably only a few people on here I would ever truly trust. As for real life, there's hardly anyone who I wouldn't be able to trust. Just about everyone has annoyed me or fucked me off somewhere.

I think it could affect your mental health - thinking there's something wrong with you because you don't trust anybody, or possibly even convincing yourself that the world's against you.

As far as the "15%" factor, I'd rather meet 85 people that will enrich my life and deal with 15 people that will cause problems, than go without having any form of relationship in my life, or for that month.

Thats paranoid schizophrenia, completely different. Not trusting anyone is a defense mechanism used by lots of people, it just shuts down your emotional system to prevent harm from occurring.

You can have meet people and have fun, while still maintaining a decent level of distrust. Its all about how you balance everything out, which some people can't do well. I can meet someone and talk to them, laugh with them, and have them "enrich my life" but I still am not going to leave my wallet laying around near them.

Personally, I find it hard to fully trust people. I can easily be too trusting over the internett and gaming but IRL I find it extremely hard to.

@justin, paranoid schizophrenia is a lot more than not trusting people and being paranoid, so probably just paranoia.

Online, probably 98% of people I don't trust. There are some people online that I trust quite a bit, but I've known these people for several years (3-4 years minimum, 11 years maximum).

In real life it's more like 90% of people I don't trust. And even then, I don't trust the 10% 100%, but I'm fine with being deceived. The only people that fall into this 10% are some family and close friends.

You're taking it to the extent. When you meet someone new, do you really have to trust them? If it's something small where they have nothing to gain then I don't see a reason not to trust them. But I wouldn't trust them much further, and you don't really have to.

You should trust everyone you barely know, at least to an extent when you need something of them. You don't have to, and I wouldn't, put too much trust in anyone.

You can meet all 85 people that will enrich your life with minimal trust, and they would build up their trust as you go along.

In general, it takes me a terribly long time to trust someone fully if I ever do. I have two friends on the Internet that I'd trust my life with (though, I've known them both for years on end), rather than some people I'm friends with in real life.

    Internet: You can't trust nobody.
Real life: You can trust everybody (Almost everybody...)

With internet, you don't know them, they are hiding behind the computer screen and can be anyone, you can't put any harm into them if they do SCAM you. In real life, if someone fucks you over, you can get them back so easilly.

    That's my input!

I'm a bit of a sucker when it comes to trust. Anyone here would have any easy job getting me to trust them, particularly in real life. I was playing a zombie game called WarZ earlier today, and I gave a shotgun to someone who looked like they were a new player to help out. Next minute, shot in the back :/

Eh - for real life, I can trust all of my close mates because they won't fuck me over for sure. Online however, I do really trust a handful of members on this site but that's because they have an amazing reputation and/or they have been a close friend of mine for a while.
