Buying a new processor and wanted to know if my 550W PSU is still ok for my planned set up

I have a Radeon HD 5870 1GB and plan on upgrading my AMD Athlon II x4 processor to a Phenom II x6 Black Edition.

How do you know it was an i7? I didn't see that listed anywhere. Even if the test was done with an i7, would the 2 extra cores of the Phenom II make much of a difference? They're physical cores after all, and not virtual.

it'll be fine. cpu wont use much more at all, few watts imo.
not worth the upgrade tbh, i'd save a bit more and get an i5+mobo, would be better but thats me.

You really only need larger PSU's if you plan on doing SLI graphics.

If you decide to do an sli setup or some serious overclocking, you may need an upgrade. But with your current setup you should be fine. When you decide to upgrade your gpu in the future, I'd advise budgeting a psu in with it.
