Is Hurricane Sandy just what Obama needed to push him ahead and get him another term?

I'm an Australian but I have been hearing through media that the only reason George W Bush Junior got another 4 years was because of 9/11 and the 'disaster' factor of it all. I'm not sure if the polls are equal or if the democrats are way in front, but do you feel that Hurricane Sandy will play a lead role in pushing Obama out in front? Lets be honest if he is seen 24/7 out on the streets of NJ, the undecided or non voting people may have their opinions changed.

Americans will probably blame him for the hurricane happening.

 

George W. H. Bush didn't get reelected because of 9/11, it was just a type of cushion for him. I'm sure he would've been reelected anyway, but that's just my opinion.

Anyhow, I don't think Hurricane Sandy will have too much affect on Obama's worthyness of becoming reelected unless something incredibly terrible happens or it continues to worsen. Then again, I think Obama will be reelected anyway.

 

Correlation and causation are two different things.

I don't think that it will have a notable impact on the polls.

 

Sandy was not even a significant storm, it was just unusually big.

 

I agree with this reference, I think Bush would have won regardless of 9/11 - it just added a little "oomph" to his campaign.


I think the only President who has had a major event occur while they were in office leading to a reelection would be FDR during a world war...

I sincerely feel like Hurricane Sandy hasn't had any significant effect on the election..

 

I am not an Obama supporter, nor do I root for Romney. Reading on all the polls and stuff lately Obama looks like he was going to get re-elected anyways.

Edit: Do I think it is unfair, no. Natural disasters happen.

 

It'll probably hurt him if anything New York and the rest of the Northeast are notoriously democratic in general. It could keep some democrats from voting the true effect however remains ambiguous.

I agree with Divine_God. I don't think a natural disaster (Hurricane Sandy) will be an impact on the polls.

 

I completely think that it would not affect the outcome of the election. I think it was just bad luck.

 

My thoughts exactly, and aside from that the Mayor of New York is taking actions on the 36 Billion dollar disaster. Hurricane Sandy wasn't an elaborated terrorist attack, it was a natural disaster. Sure, it can be used to Obama's favor in some way or another, but in no way, shape, or form will it compare to 9/11 and the effects it took on America.

 

It's not affecting my vote and I doubt it will have a large impact.

New York, NJ, Massachusetts, and all others are not really going to play a role in the election. Their stances on their electoral votes were decided months ago, and nobody has really cared to change it. The majority of these New England states were always Obama, and making them "even more" for Obama won't really hurt Romney's vote count in the end. He can dance as much as he wants around NJ and NYC, but the fact of the matter is that the real campaigning should continue to be in Pennsylvania, Iowa, Colorado, Ohio, and perhaps even Michigan and some others.

To be honest, if anything this could hurt Obama. It will likely give us a good reference at how garbage FEMA is and how much better it would be to put the recovery in the hands of the states' governments instead. The only problem is, nobody will ever hear about how bad FEMA is because nobody will run the stories. They're too busy playing clips of grounded ships and destruction.

 

If you have Chris Christie (That portly fellow) who is a notorious Obama 'hater', if you'll allow the title, commending Obama on his great support and fast action he took in supporting the states then I doubt it will hurt him. Obama already had emergency action funds delegated before the storm even settled down, unlike what Bush did with Katrina where he waited 2 weeks or more to send in help.

Right now the main states that are in the battle are Florida (Romney with a very slight lead), Virginia (The candidates are literally neck and neck, they have the same exact score with around 47.5% of the votes), Colorado (Obama has a slight lead), and Ohio (where Obama also has a slight lead). Currently of all of the 'confirmed' electoral votes though Obama is leading. All of this is according to the Huffington Post's political dashboard which averages several polls taken in the state to give a score of likely voters for each candidate and assigns electoral votes from there.

 

as stated, it's not going to affect my vote, nor does it seem to have much of an impact on anyone who's not in New York... Since new york makes up a very small percentage of American population, its effects are likely negligible.

It'd be ground breaking for New York to pick anything -but- democrat. When I lived there, almost everyone was a democrat.

So different in Florida, it's fun to see division in opinions.

 

It will majorly help him. They were thought to be extremely close in supporters. Depending now on how he handles the relief efforts, he could win the election. All Romney can do is sit on the side lines and do his campaign, which makes him look like an ass hole for not helping enough.

New York is republican, which will help Obama if they can't vote.
