No support. This isn't gonna make people any more community involved, it'll just attract in some "rank-whores". I like having the raid idea, but adding a rank in for it? It's just stupid. People will go, show off their rank while they have it, and never go back to the community section.
This is at least how I see it.

I read it and what stuck with me was "for the duration of the event"
The event itself will take like an hour or so depending on what it is and if an admin isn't online during that time then the ranks won't be applied at an accurate time. At the end of this 1 hour they would be removed and if an admin hadn't applied it, then it would be like they didn't even take part. Not to mention the fact that there would be no "prestige" as everyone would be taking part, so to speak, so no one would be able to see the rank.

Ranks also indicate a level of trust. You may argue that fun ranks do not show trust but think about it like this. Only Sythe's most loyal members who have achieved great things really are awarded with them. Community Participant does not, in any shape or form, indicate trust though.

I like this idea however, something unobtrusive.

I don't mind if people are rank-whores, so long as they participate in the events. The entire purpose is to get more participation so we can actually have active events and projects

I do like this suggestion, however I'm also against ranks being achieved too easily, even if temporary.

Maybe some sort of tiny icon, like the size of the MSN one under Moh's post count. Except it would be placed closer to the avatar. And when you hover over it, it just says that the user is currently participating in said event. Not sure if this would be possible though.

Rank whores are fine, but the members that would use a rank to their advantage to gain trust and deceive the newbies of the forum that hasn't been past the market, nope.

That wouldn't be a problem, except the rank suggest has party hats (synonymous with trust), and people might see "community participant" as someone who's more trusted because of their "loyalty". I see your point then, I still believe this would do more good than harm, but maybe blue phats is too much.

I think it should be a point system as SuF suggested.

Considering it's a rank that's available to everyone, I know no issues with it. Not a fan of the whole partyhat thing.

Timezones could be a problem for these sorts of events though. I rarely can make it to Sythe Events due to my Australian timezone, so as long as the possibility of getting the rank and being able to participate in competitions and events isn't hampered by this or any other factors, I reckon it's cool beans :)

This could throw off newcomers a lot and result in more scams. You could have an October join date with 2 vouches getting one of these and a blue partyhat would almost look like it's more important than a mod, so people would likely go first to them and get scammed.

Look guys, it doesn't have to be blue partyhats.

If a newbie in the market sees dozens of other unknown marketers with this Community Participant rank is he going to assume it means trust? If he does, without trying to find out why the rank was given - then he's going to get scammed anyway.

Timezones would make it hard to coordinate since there might not be an administration online when competition ends. Duly noted, something to figure out if this suggestion is taken any farther. Thanks for the input!
I don't know if the first part is sarcasm, but hopefully the ROTMG raid works, and if it's successful in bringing in more activity from that niche, then I see no reason it can't be a weekly event.
vvv See below, valid concern vvv
I like it if it's possible
^^^ See above ^^^ to justin's comment. The rank would need to be changes. Partyhats, as said, signifies too much trust.

I like all the ideas, but one of the questions I either didn't see answered, or I must have skipped over the answer, was is the rank just going to be there for the duration of the event? Im not sure people will be too interested in it if its only there for an hour or so. I think it should be there until the start of the next event.

The answer is difficult to explain is why. It depends on how you define "the duration of the event", because my idea was that an event STARTS when a thread is posted, and when people begin to recruit. Therefore, official contests and projects etc would begin a week in advanced as the sponsor/thread writer puts together a roster of members who will participate. As soon as these names go onto the roster, THAT'S when they get their rank. Then, a week or so later when the actual even happens and is done with, THAT'S when the rank will be revoked until the next event. For example, I'm starting the ROTMG Raid, and people are pledging their activity to the event, even though it doesn't start for like 4 more days. That means they would have gotten the rank/profile perk as soon as they posted their interest and would keep it until we actually do the raid.

See, I would do it the opposite way for just one reason. Some people will say they will be going to the event, just to get the rank, then never actually go. If they get the rank after, it will show they actually did go to the event, and that they are a community participant.

I would then tell them that they're no longer eligible for the rank. If they join just for the rank, and refuse to participate, then it's no worse than our current situation where a couple people join and NO ONE stays for the vent, or the event is dropped/forgotten due to lack of interest or incentive

Maybe make the rank symbols have a resemblance to the event. ROTMG, make 3 different ROTMG items.

Then we'd have to make a rank for every single event that we do, separately. ROTMG Raid was just an example of the type of even you'd earn this rank for, it's not what I'm tailoring the whole perk to

Right, but that doesn't stop people from doing it once.
I don't know, it just seems to me that having the rank after the event to show that you actually participated seems like a better idea. Maybe some other people will chime in and say what they think?
