Need suggestions on what to buy. I want to build my first PC.

I am not the most knowledgeable on computers. But i do know quite a bit, i have never built my own computer, but for someone reason, ive just been having the urge to build one. So i ask you Fellow Sythe users, please help me on what i might need for my computer.

I might use parts i have on my current PC. but please list the parts i might need.

I will mainly use my computer to play runescape. Run 2 maybe 3 bots at a time as i do not run a massive bot farm. But ive always wanted a cool one with lights on the inside that change color.

This is what i have so far that i will need:

    8 Gig ram
    1 TB of memory

    Thats it XD

Please post suggestions on that motherboard to buy, what graphics card, what power supply, what case, what cooling system to buy.

    Thank you :)

    1200 US, Canadian.. ??

1200 US will get you a lot more than 8GB RAM. I built my tower on 1100 and it has 32Gb Ram

You will never use 32 gigs of ram, ever. And neither will he.

To op- for what you are doing 8 gigs is more than enough, you could even use 4, but i wouldnt recommend it. When i get on my computer later i will post a build for you.

Actually, I max it out pretty often. I double it as a server environment so when people access it, it uses more and more RAM to process the threads.

Video editing software uses a lot of ram too in the compression stages of editing. Ask anyone who uses premiere.

Multi-threading tasks and calculations also run off of RAM. When doing large number calculations, like those of quantum physics when integrals span several pages of notebook paper, mathematica can crunch those numbers. In doing so, it uses RAM to store the calculations and access them again. And actually, when you load your OS and software, it all loads into ram for faster access, so when you're piling on the applications, as I tend to do when programming and engineering, they all access and run smoother.

So yeah, I do use 32GB of ram. Pretty often actually.

Calculating Schroedinger's Equation to the millionth decimal place with some imaginary and real numbers thrown into the mix for differential waves... Tends to take up a lot of resources.

    Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139008
    100 USD

    DVD ROM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151256
    18 USD

    SSD (120GB): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227791&Tpk=20-227-791
    100 USD

    Storage HDD (1 TB): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148840
    109 USD

    Windows 8 OEM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832416550
    100 USD

    CPU + Mobo (AMD Bulldozer, 4.2GHz 4 core): http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1067428
237 USD (Windows 8 really unlocks this CPU)

    PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341018
    90 USD

RAM (16GB) (Buy two of these): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231460
    100 USD

    Video Card (GTX 660, 2GB): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130826
    (230 USD)

    Total: $1084.

Not including rebates. Leaves plenty of room for additional parts. I'd suggest an aftermarket CPU cooler, more RAM, or instead of an AMD mobo and CPU, an Intel CPU (IVyBridge) and motherboard. Make sure the socket of the CPU matches the socket of the Mobo if you go the IvyBridge route. Also, if you decide to go Intel I suggest an i5 CPU. They run cooler and are generally more stable.

Building it is another beast. Make sure you take great care when placing the CPU into the cpu socket. And even more care when handling the components. Static electricity makes circuits much weaker, causing them to fail sooner, so make sure you're grounded prior to installation.

Assumed you were only gaming, however, my point still stands that anything over 8 gigs of ram is overkill for the OP.

On the gaming level, RAM in only utilized in loading mechanics code. All of the "pretty" things are loaded into GPU and then processed over CPU. Having a good graphics cards, especially one with a lot of individual cores, really streamlines games. And multi core processors makes games much more efficient. For a high end gamer, I'd suggest 8 core CPU. I recommended the bulldozer CPU here for it's speed and ease of overclocking with an aftermarket heat sink. The 5GHz OC'd cpu really makes performance in games much better, especially games that are not multi-core capable.
