Teachers can't teach?

they can, students are just getting lazier

 

So anyone who gets into the teaching profession is obviously competent at it.

Got it, no teacher can possibly be at fault.

 

idk...ive had some good some bad teachers. my college professor, in my dual credit class, he knows his shit. my ap computer science teacher, he knows his shit. my english teacher....doesnt know her shit. it depends on the level they teach at.

 

As a senior studying high school education, I can't agree with this thread more. There are way too many lackadaisical teachers who can give a rat's ass about their students and how they actually teach. There are two reasons why in my experience:

1 - Teaching isn't viewed as a profession. If it were, teachers with professional degrees (I.e., masters or equivalent) would get paid like a professional. Professional lawyers, doctors, accountants, actuaries, contractors, and businessmen all get paid way more than teachers. Most teachers in this country with a MEd make about $50k a year. That's disgusting.

2 - The teachers unions are destroying schools. The crappy teacher who doesn't care about anything but showing up and getting checks every month simply cannot be dealt with. The unions have a vice grip around the testicles of the school boards. Instead of firing shitty teachers, principals simply write poor reviews, year after year. But the principals know that it's useless, as do the teachers.

I can name five horrible, shit teachers in my school off the top of my head. One of the teachers has been at the school for over 6 years, and year after year all of the kids who have had her complain. She doesn't teach shit all semester and when exams come, they're too hard because she takes other teacher's exams. The lady honestly DOES NOT care, all she does is display random "educational" (yeah right) movies and sit at her computer the entire class.

It's bs because kids are forced to either fail the class, study like crazy, or have to figure the shit out themselves and that cuts into their homework time, which will just result in them failing other classes and or driving insane.

 

it works both ways, the teachers have to want to teach and the students have to want to learn? surely?
