Hey, need some advice on a custom build

Hey, I am looking to get a build similar to: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/kL8X with a better video card (I heard 2GB is better). The only problem is I am living in Australia and I cannot find many sites to find parts over here. I would have no problem shipping in parts but what parts would I have to buy locally so it could run the local power supply etc. I am also looking for a cheap SSD like $50 to install windows to.

By budget is give or take 1k AUS and I was wondering if anyone in AUS has built a similar build and what parts did you use.

    Cheers, T9D

Hey, need some advice on a custom build

Looks like a good build but I'd get a fast AMD processor for half of the money instead of an Intel.

Fast amd is a bit of an oxymoron really.

The best for gaming is always intel. Even little i3s are better than the top of the line amds i believe.

The fanboyism is through the roof.

AMD is fine for gaming, you will never notice the difference. The main component in any gaming build is the GPU, do not slack there.

The only reason I'd recommend intel over AMD is if you had significant budget, wanted to do low level emulation, or needed to export videos and large music and graphic files.

Hey, need some advice on a custom build

If 1k AUS is same/almost 1k USD, he shouldn't go with an AMD.
Intel>AMD, what justin said is true. Maybe if he waits abit, AMD's new series of CPUs will be out very soon.. And I guess they're pretty good for their price, still intel>AMD..

Oh, just realized that 1k AUS is 1,033 USD so,
    CPU:i7 2600k
    Case:cooler master haf 912
    RAM:8gb RAM by G.SKILL
    GPU:GTX 660 ti
    MOBO:ASROCK Z77 Pro4 MOBO
    HDD:Western Digital 500GB
    Cooling:Corsair H60 cooling
PSU:600 watt bronze 80+ PSU Corsair

Hey, need some advice on a custom build

Just had a look through the Australian parts and its $1.2k with a monitor: http://pcpartpicker.com/au/p/kQpB. I am really looking to cut it down to 1k so what do you reccomend me downgrading.

Thanks for the replies btw and risk it nerd, are they compatible in Australia (this will be my first build and I am assuming the only thing I need to check is the powersupply and case)

Not really. Intel outperforms amd cpus in every way possible.

Edit: stay with the 660ti, and get an i5 3570k instead. I recommend getting a higher watt psu if you plan to sli 660tis later :)

Hey, need some advice on a custom build

Meh, what you chose isn't that good...
CPU, why i7 3770 not 3770k? stick with it if you're not going to OC (overclock)
Sound card? usually onboard is fine!
Case.. uhmm Antec is awesome, Cooler Master is better.. Go with the HAF 912
GPU is not bad, why AMD? NVIDIA is way better, go with the 660 ti/normal..
    Get a Z77 MOBO..
    Why 30GB SSD? get a 60GB for 50-60 bucks..
5400RPM HDD? go with WD Caviar Black...

So you reckon http://pcpartpicker.com/au/p/kQPe. Do you think it would be worth downgrading some parts to make it cheaper or would it be worth paying the bit extra.

Hey, need some advice on a custom build

Since the GTX 660 is 270$ go with 660 ti its 330$ and it's worth it..
Amazon and other sites are cheaper and sometimes ship to Australia.
And I'm pretty much sure that you should put whatever you can! Spend as much money as you can to get something that will serve you for years and so you won't have to pay more money in 2 years..
Still I suggest you get the i7 3770k, if you get the i5 3570k you won't regret, it's powerful.. The only use that i7's are more powerful than i5's in is Video Editing/Photoshop. But if you don't want to spend 30$ more and want to stick with the i7 go i7 2600k. the k is important if you want to overclock, unless the intel 2.0 Turbo Boost Technology is enough for you.

I might go with the k CPU. I will have a look around amazon and acouple of other sites and see the price variation. Thanks for your help, btw why is there such a difference in the price of the cases. They go from 60-300 dollars.

Hey, need some advice on a custom build

Uhh, you don't need any of those 300$ ones.
The HAF 912 is pretty much awesome, huge (it's a mid tower I guess) for 100 or less
HAF 922/932 are Bad-ass's and the HAF 942 X is the best for gaming ( around 180$)
Antec makes solid cases, but it's not match against Cooler Master..
    And diff between cases are:
    Air Flow
    Mid/High Tower
How big it is.. and if you can fit your GPU in it and if you can SLI it (if it has space)
The 300$ ones like cosmic or whatever it's called is more of a workstation thing.
Thermaltake or something makes solid cases too but they're expensive.

Hey, need some advice on a custom build

Hmm, the Antec Eleven Hundred ATX Full Tower Case should suffice then. Would you recommend a cheap cooling system with it or should the stock fan's work fine.

Hey, need some advice on a custom build

Might be hard to find a SSD for 50$.

Also spend about 30-40$ and get a aftermarket cpu cooler. The stock works fine if you dont overclock, But a aftermarket works so much better and they are cheap.
