Clever Scam method [Read & Beware]

So, today I was hoping to buy some gold from Kevin. Let me start off by saying that Kevin is a legit and trusted seller and he had nothing to do with this. But him and I were about to be victim of a very clever scam method. So here it is, I'm sorry if this has been posted before but I just want people to be aware of this method so that no-one else fall victim of this. This is a complex method so be very focused when reading it below.

So this guy, added me on Skype with skype username almost as same as Kevin's and did the same with Kevin by adding a skype username as almost as same as mine.

This fake Kevin skype man asked me to post on his thread to declare the gold purchase because real Kevin had asked him to do so. I did it, because I thought real Kevin is asking me to do so. This way, my fake Skype got verified by real Kevin. And now to verify myself, he asked the real Kevin to PM me with skype usernames. Luckily, this is where his method got ruined. I got a PM from real kevin with different skype username (for both me and his skype id). That's how we caught onto him and then later we discussed this method and found out how this guy was trying to scam us.

Now to summarize this scam method, A scammer will add you on skype with a fake gold dealer skype name and do the same with the both parties involved working as a middle-men in order to scam both of you. Now this is very hard to spot as people can easily ignore these little feats as post on forums are being made and PMs are being sent out. For your safety, always trade with care and make sure that conversations through forum and skype name are 100% correct.

This guy tried to impersonate me by doing a simple trick. My skype name is Actified he made a account under ActLfied (with L in lowercase making it look like Actified). If you are still confused of this method or need screenshots, I am willing to release the screenshots of conversations or things as such to better clarify my point.

And at last, do not forget. My skype ID is Actified with no L's in it. Thanks and safe trading people. ^_^

Lucky you managed to spot the scam. These kinds of things are quite common and it's just pathetic. Props to you for writing up the method so that others are aware of what is going on.

 

Yes, This is a scam that is used a lot by people that is why you must always confirm with a private message on sythe

 

This is just the everyday common imposter trick, Kevin seems to have some people who have a raging boner for impersonating him though. This sadly is not a new method at all a little bit of a better thought out imposter though, all the more reason to practice safe trading and always request a PM

Old method is old.
But it's hard to catch on to. I have a similar story where I nearly lost 1.2B in an MM. Simply enough, paying attention isn't hard. Thinking isn't hard either. Thinking about what you pay attention to is the key to all this

This method is old, but the user doing it right now is doing it heavily, and he is quite good at it. This post is well timed, check my buying thread, he got someone for a Yellow Phat today.

 

I spent hours digging into this method when Oxodium was a victim of it a long time back. One of the biggest headaches I've ever had. Wonder if it's the same person...

 

Gotta be. Amazed at how fast he's working. Won't be surprised if he's lurking on the forum right now. The thing that gets most of the people is his response time. He adds both parties so quick that you won't be able to differentiate. So be safe, folks.

 

Really ? WOW... i thought this was one of kevins regular imposters (seems like someone regularly imposters as kevin or seems to have a hard-on for him) I had no idea that this is being done en masse.

Best you can do is always match the skype/msn with the PM.

I request both my, and the other users Msn/skype in a PM with dialogue from the chat log itself.

 

Going to close this. Not because it's not a good warning, but because I fear it may give scammers another method to use. Better this die down rather than sit at the top of the forums for all to see.
