The music you don't like, and why

Are there certain kinds of music do you dislike? Or are you like me and believe that there's good music to be found in any genre if you look hard enough?

 

I believe that music I don't like, can be good to other people. It's been hard for me to accept that though. I used to be really hypocritical and bash on people who didn't like my music then do the same to theirs. I don't have much respect for the majority of music and artists in the pop scene right now. Mostly because half of them don't even write their own songs. I remember hearing something about Rhianna's song "Umbrella" originally being written for Britney but because she was going through all that crap, they gave it to Rhianna and she made millions from it, I'm not sure if that's true to any degree but I don't doubt it. I hate how artists get producers to write 90% of their songs and just sing it. IMO there isn't much talent in producing a computerised beat and singing along to it, although I accept other people do. I'm a lover of raw, unperfect metal and alternative music. Music with emotion and music that's written by the artist(s).

95% of anything that calls itself hip hop. Most modern country music (I have a lot of respect for Brad Paisley though, he is a beast.) and modern pop.

 

I dont like stuff like hip-hop, chart, pop, etc.

very much into alternative and underground alternative stuff.

 

I'll generally listen to anything I find good, ranging from mainstream hip hop to Fleetwood Mac to Born of Osiris. The only style of music you generally won't find on my iPod/iTunes is pop or country.

 

I don't really like death metal or metal tbh. I can understand why some people may like but just not really for me.

 

I recently got into some fleetwood mac. They're actually pretty good. Outlaw Country is good music, like old school country - Johnny Cash and that whole group were right between Rockabilly and Country.

 

Is that good or bad? I'm not even sure.

 

I dislike county music and screamo. Screamo because I find it annoying, and country music because it's just to slow and boring for me. I'm fine with any other music genre though, maybe one day I'll come around.

True I do like some Johnny Cash songs. I find the main reason I like Fleetwood Mac, or at least the songs that I'm listening to by them, is because my dad used to always play their songs in the car when I drove with him places - thus there is a sense of nostalgia there which makes it better.

 

I absolutely hate Country, Blues and Jazz etc. Other genres I dislike mostly but I think there are a few songs or bands that show promise include pop, rap and death metal. Recently however I've been listening to some bands that include death metal aspects (very small), a bit of rap and Electronic music such as Enter Shikari and Hadouken!.

Meh, I meant alternative rock/progressive metal etc.

 

Screemo - Do I really need an explanation? Cat's dying make more enjoyable noises.

Rap - I enjoy listening to rap occasionally but hate the kids who listen to it and think their gangsters. It seems that a LOT of the rap scene promotes stupid shit.

Hip-Hop - I honestly hate the mainstream auto tune shit that's pumped out every goddamn month. Is having Rhianna's vocals a prerequisite?...

 

Guys, screamo isn't a genre, this isn't 2005.
As for me, most acoustic stuff, I mean like scrictly acoustic/singing stuff, there's plenty of songs I love that use acoustic guitars, or by bands that only have the occasional acoustic song.

Metal/"core" genres that don't have any melody to follow (meanwhile I LOVE melodic metal)

At least half of that poppy indie radio stuff, you know like foster the people, black keys, sheepdogs, mumford and suns, even jack white and the white stripes. theres obviously promising bands that can be related to those though.

Have to agree with this. Well, I think Jack White doesn't deserve to be there simply for the fact that the White Stripes definitely brought something decent to the table for a while, along with other bands around then like Bright Eyes and The Strokes. Not a big fan/follower of TWS/Jack white nowadays, but personally, I have to give credit where it's due.

I'm pretty limited to music these days because my previous favorite radio station (R.I.P good music) got new DJs and is now pumping out that indie crap that you're talking about, and that's about ALL THEY PLAY!!!!! They put aside about 15 minutes at 9 PM for the "Old-School segment" where they play about 3 good songs and then they go back to playing that bullshit. I keep my radio locked on another station that has always held true and keeps the good stuff flowing (STP, Pearl Jam, Fuel, Soundgarden, Zeppelin, Collective soul, Hendrix, Nirvana, AIC, Metallica all day long)

Pretty raw in the sense that you know whoever this song was written for knows it, as someone who writes songs I can almost guarantee that, haha.

Seether is a pretty damn good band, this sure as hell isn't my favorite song by them but it's their newest(?) I believe, so I figured it was relevant.

I guess the video maker isn't going to credit the singer/band but it's Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators, obviously with slash as the guitarist. Thought it was a decent track.

I wish people would promote bands that have raw talent and not just bands that rock dubstep behind guitars and play on keyboards [Electronic music, if you will] (Inb4 someone says Rush, the cars, elo, etc.), the matter of the fact is that's literally all they promote (At least where I'm at).

Jeez, Where did we go wrong this last decade? Seemed so promising when I used to be listening to Incubus, QOTSA, jimmy eat world, Ben Kweller, and Lit all night long on the radio...
