Okay. I don't agree that incest is right, but I really have no points to back up my views (hence the reason why this thread was made, and the reason why I've been playing devil's advocate).

It's not a really good reason though to just give your opinion.

Well, she is a step aunt, not a biological aunt. However, I'm talking about incest in its more intense forms. I mean, I'm not even talking about falling in love with cousins here. Just incest as in, between a brother and a sister (not a step brother/step sister).

Yes, essentially the same argument that is given for homosexuals (except the child part - homosexuals already can't have children).

 

I would never consider it, therefore I think it is pretty sick if you ask me.

i dont think its okay, because of the imfluence on member of the family might have over the other. its similar to the reason for an age of consent law, really. someone under 18 might not be mature enough to make the educated decision to consent to sex with someone over 18, and the older party might be able to manipulate the younger one. except in this case, it has more to do with the fact that one member of the family can convince someone that somethings okay, simply because of the fact that theyre family.

 

Besides the moral issue in incest, there's a high chance that the offspring may be affected by a congenital defect.

 

Modern society considers it a "taboo" in America. As for my personal opinion, I don't support it whatsoever. It goes against my faith, and my set of morals.

 

If a couple both want to be together then I could care less if it was incest or not. I wouldn't but who am I to force my "morals" on them?

This isn't about forcing anyone to do anything.

If I'm against homosexuality, it doesn't mean that I'm homophobic - it doesn't mean I hate homosexuals, harm them, etc. But it does mean that I would never SUPPORT homosexuality.

Now, with incest. Your statement was simply a passive one, being: "I don't care". I asked in the OP for no passiveness. The question is, would you ever support incest? If so, I expect some form of reasoning as to why you do.

Someone once told me, "Love conquers all". According to this, this particular someone concluded that incest is morally right. Now of course, it's a silly premise and is really easy to debunk (a simple counter-example is sufficient), but you get the point. I need a reason as to why you support/are against incest.

 

I honestly think it's disgusting, even though (I don't think) it's not against any religion.

But if you think of it, during the middle ages, incest played a major role in society.

 

Personally I'm at a crossroads with the whole incest ordeal.

I mean on one side I think, well if you believe in Adam and Eve, they had kids, and the kids had to have had kids to make the population grow, so therefore they had incest which is what made all of man.
Or what if there was an apocalypse and there were maybe 100-1000 people left alive and you and your sibling or cousin or someone were apart from everyone and you figure, "Hey let's have some kids to help repopulate" I think that would be fine.

But then there is the fact of having genetically deformed children from incest. Usually from incest the kid will have mental deficiencies or physical ones.

So really I'm not sure.

 

I think incest is wrong.

There are two types of love, the love you unconditionally give to your family - because well, they are your family and they can never be changed and it is natural to love them and them to love you back.

Then there is the love you find with a partner, a partner who becomes your friend but also whom you share an intimate relationship with in some way.

And I don't think those two types of love should be mixed into one, not to mention it's just not morally correct and never has been upon most cultures.

My conclusion, it's a big no.

 

This is exactly how I feel about the subject. Even if someone were to disprove, who are they to call it right or wrong?

The only thing that I would worry about is the possibility of a mother/father + son/daughter relationship having a negative impact on the child. In my mind at least it doesn't really make sense to determine an arbitrary age such as 18 an adult, and two days less, a child, so I think it is really dependent on the situation. Again though, if both parties seem to be willingly consenting to it I would never step in.

Honestly, who do you think you are? Jesus Christ? How can you possibly hope to determine what love people should and shouldn't feel towards a person? Love isn't exactly something that you can choose..so people should be looked down upon because YOU find it to be morally unacceptable? If you have a more logical disagreement I'd love to hear it.

Ahh, I thought someone would mention this. This is actually a common misconception, the chances of having a genetically deformed or retarded child purely from incest is actually quite low. A woman having children over 40 is more likely to have a retarded child than from an incestuous relationship eg brother/sister.

 

This is a very strong/mature argument in my opinion. This is actually one of the things that I would make sure to look at. In my opinion as long as both parties are happy in the relationship and consenting, there is no reason for anyone to step in. If a child were questioned alone, at almost age he/she would be able to tell you if he/she was happy with the situation.

 

I personally don't support it in my life. I just can't look at my relatives that way.

I think incest is wrong. Sources show it has to do with the modern moral issue of genetic blending which cause birth defects, retardation, and forms of insanity. There are, also, religious concepts which forbid incest, as well as state and federal laws.

 

I don't think it's acceptable, frankly I think it's sickening. It's particularly due to the fact that I have always grown up in the suburbs and have been around many people so I never found it a valid reason to have to have sex with a sibling/family member as there are plenty of non-family members that surround me.

I think the general idea of it is sickening. I don't see a reason why someone would want to be sexually active with a family member.

At the same time, this is just my opinion. I'm not going to go out in public and bash people for their decisions. To each their own, I suppose.

 

I am for freedom of choice and action, but this is the ultimate borderline for me personally.
