Messaging system (not a shoutbox[?])

In most cases, it's much harder to impersonate someone by hacking their sythe account as opposed to their MSN, especially when they simply create their own msn with a minute difference in the email to avoid detection as a fake. If someone were to hack another's account, there isn't much we staff can do as far as preemptive action unless the real owner knows he's hacked and asks for a SRB. Drastic IP changes happen every day, so we can't tell if the user simply logged on else where or is actually hacked. Point is, when it comes to hacking, it's the users responsibility to staying safe and secure, or warning us when they're compromised.

 

MSN's and Windows Live accounts are well known to be easy to hack and recover - you only need a few personal details to have a chance of recovering it. Sythe accounts are a lot harder to get control of, so it would be safer.

I do remember Sythe trying to run an IRC before in order to allow trading through an IM system that forced members to log-in to their Sythe account to be able to speak in the system. This is a much more direct route and is a lot more user-friendly. In theory, it's great.

If the costs can be covered and someone is willing to code it, it will definitely be an excellent addition to this website.

Wow.. is this still ongoing? I think it had more than enough time for it to be accepted or denied.

Like I've stated earlier though, I fully support this.

 

I think Matthew has stated we are waiting until VB4 to do this.

 

Yeah like x339 said, it's likely to be accepted, but it won't have an official verdict until vb4 is released.

I really think this is a good idea. The current PM system is very annoying to use. And it would stop imposters posing as legit traders on MSN/Skype/ect.

 

Those details haven't been hammered out yet. The major obstacles are 1) Money to run it, 2) A server to host it on since it probably would slow down sythe to a crawl if it's hosted on here, and 3) security. If another person, like Graves who offered a while ago, were to host it with their own money, we'd have to be sure they can't access any of the files because if it's used, a shitton of sensitive information will be stored in the application. We could encrypt the files, but I don't know anything about that.

 

I would be willing do give a VPS where I don't have access too. I'm really looking forward this approved.

I know im late, but if it matters I support this 100% The only thing I am concerned about is the security because if we end up doing this & one hacker gets in, the whole database could potentially be leaked.

 

Interesting point, but I don't believe the database could be reached through this. The only reason hacking could be on the rise is if you get into a Sythe account, you also have the tool used to negotiate trades - an IM system. The database I'm sure has many means of protection behind it including encryption, etc.

 

Using cometchat on my own website. Works perfectly, could be integrated with users and also very easy to monitor. Scams are easy to find and block from your website. We're using premium package for $249,- now, this could be paid out of donations.

Hopefully this suggestion will bring it to a closer end.

Looks promising, I'm pretty sure the 249$ would be easy to raise if a few people spare a few $ each toward the cause..

 

Fantastic suggestion, this would be really good. If people were to scam using the ''sythe messenger'' then maybe the instant messenger can automatically log the chat for proof.

 

If it's something similar to Facebook Chat, that means it always stays there and can be screenshotted, which would be cool.

I'm curious to see if this will actually be implented.. this suggestion has been around for a long time now.
