    Need help expanding paper.

    I have just finished my literary analysis.
    It is 3 pages out of the 4 pages she wants.

    I have analyzed the poem "Annabel Lee" by Poe.

    My interpretive question was who is annabel lee?

    Anyone know any good things to add that i might have forgot.

    Wanting to see the paper? Just ask.

    That's an extremely broad question. I will copy / paste the poem below, and start my analysis of questions you need to bring up and answer in your essay. Four pages is tiny for a Poe poem, you should have no trouble expanding:

    It was many and many a year ago,
    In a kingdom by the sea,
    That a maiden there lived whom you may know
    By the name of ANNABEL LEE;
    And this maiden she lived with no other thought
    Than to love and be loved by me.

    I was a child and she was a child,
    In this kingdom by the sea;
    But we loved with a love that was more than love-
    I and my Annabel Lee;
    With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
    Coveted her and me.

    And this was the reason that, long ago,
    In this kingdom by the sea,
    A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
    My beautiful Annabel Lee;
    So that her highborn kinsman came
    And bore her away from me,
    To shut her up in a sepulchre
    In this kingdom by the sea.

    The angels, not half so happy in heaven,
    Went envying her and me-
    Yes!- that was the reason (as all men know,
    In this kingdom by the sea)
    That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
    Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.

    But our love it was stronger by far than the love
    Of those who were older than we-
    Of many far wiser than we-
    And neither the angels in heaven above,
    Nor the demons down under the sea,
    Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
    Of the beautiful Annabel Lee.

    For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams
    Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
    And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes
    Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
    And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
    Of my darling- my darling- my life and my bride,
    In the sepulchre there by the sea,
    In her tomb by the sounding sea.

    The poem is about a narcissistic obsession, not a person, if you just glance at it. But when you really dig down, Annabel Lee isn't just a person, it's a representation of an idea. It's the loss of a freedom, of a life. It's about a person who sees this girl locked away, and he can never reach her. This girl put to death and buried in the sea, and he can never have her. It's a burning desire for an emotional or physical freedom that he can never have.

    It is:
    A slave looking for freedom.
    A love that can never be.
    A toy that can never be had.
    A dream destroyed.

    It is the feeling of wanting, but never having. If you read this as a romantic interest, read it again. This applies to everything in our lives that we want and cannot have. Annabel Lee is a metaphor for our desires, and the poem is about the feeling of never having that which we desire, so we pretend.

    There are so many ways to interpret this poem it is insane. Consider Poe's life - he was an alcoholic manic depressive who married his cousin and had everyone he ever loved die. Needless to say he was a troubled man. You could do something in a parallel to his life. You could do a malyce like look, or you could go off on some tangent and find some deeper hidden meaning. That is the beauty of literature. The Author had intentions for it, but, poetry specifically, everyone get's their own view of it.

    This poem is so chilling, it begins on such a high note but then descends into a madness and depression that is near incomprehensible.

    Read this line:

    In the literal sense she was buried alive in a tomb. Sepulcher though could be many things. What is Kinsman in relation to her? There are so many little things to pick at. I could write a page or two on just that line.
