I've dealt with 2 choking victims who went from a panicked state of being barely audible to being unable to speak at all. Maybe it's you who has never dealt with this?

    Then quote it.

All I saw was a 10 second clip, who is to say it didn't change over the 8 minutes?
I mean a person did die over this.

Well he was obviously more of a danger than someone who didn't resist arrest. If you're so uncooperative that you have to be arrested by force then you can't be surprised when people don't want to risk helping you out later.

Oh right, so you're saying that as soon as the Police Officer opened the door and had a look at the suspect he miraculously gained the power to float straight through the Officer and run away? Clearly there would have been some kind of physical confrontation if the guy had tried to get out of the car, which again is an unnecessary risk.

You can't expect people to put their lives in even more danger than a Police Officers already is just on the off chance that someone might be dieing.

Also, the guy was going to die from the start. The video states that it took 8 minutes for the suspect to die. There would not have been time for the Cops to work out he wasn't faking it, call an ambulance and wait for it to arrive before he died. Police Officers have basic first aid training but it probably doesn't cover this kind of problem. The Police had a very small chance of saving him.

I have on account of my profession. When you're going through school for just a basic EMT certification one of the determinations regarding whether the patient is a load and go is an obstruction airway, if the patient is able to converse with you the airway is not obstructed, any deviations in the trachea (which are visible) are also a sign of an obstructed airway. The officers, by SOP question the subject before taking them to jail which im sure they did, a basic officer would be able to tell if there were any complications.

Again, anyone going to jail would make bullshit excuses to try and get out of trouble or try to escape, they see it ever day and depicted it as the same attempt. What later happens to him is none of the officers concern, another police SOP is not to talk to the individual until arrival of the jail, which they did.

The first half of the video he was communicating with the officers, they were ignoring him as they're told to. Whatever happens after that is none of their concern, they have no idea whats going on.

Edit: Not to mention he is responsible for telling the officers any medical conditions he has.

That's not the point, the point is that no action was taken - not even taking the person to the hospital themselves.

Hell, anyone IN jail make bullshit excuses, but they can't ignore it and take them to the hospital anyways.
A lot of the time it is fake, but sometimes it isn't.

I do agree with this, although there could be explanations for it, we don't know them.

They're not paramedics, they aren't trained to detect something such as a mutated sickle cell. If the arrest is text book and no obvious life threatening deformities are detected they're not responsible.

But they do have EMT training, they can't ignore his plea for help. even if it is just taking them to a hospital.

They continue the arrest after the person is stable.

He was a suspect for the crime.
    Innocent until proven guilty.

if they had to use force to capture him he obviously isn't innocent and not a suspect without some backing evidence as long as you do nothing wrong a cop can't just say "hey your going with us" that breaks your amendmant rights

Did they press charges? I'm not sure if they'd be liable as a police officer but even though they didn't know he had an obscure medical condition a non-cop would still be held responsible.

A cop can arrest you for any reason they want as long as they don't press charges*.

Sure you can sue for wrongful imprisonment, but all he has to do is give a flimsy reason and it's your word against his.

*Although in some situations a warrant is needed.

Obviously you have to go to court to find out if you're guilty. The cop doesn't decide if your guilty or not. Obviously now he can't even plead his case because HES DEAD.

Mage3158, if you were a cop and you have to deal with a lot of arrests. There will definitely be a LOT of people who will try something of the sort, seriously, anybody can be in the backseat of a cop car being taken to the police station and just claim that they "Can't breath", it just so happened that this guy was serious.

EDIT: Take the man to the hospital? Definitely won't happen, as I said, anyone can just fake that they "Can't breath" when being taken to the police station, any cop with common sense would think that the man is lying, because cmon now he is a Criminal!

That hasn't been decided yet, and it certainly isn't for the cop to decide.

Its now being ruled as homicide.

City officials from the fire, police and prosecutors offices reviewed the video months ago and determined the cops did nothing wrong. Walker’s death was ruled a natural death until a Journal-Sentinel investigation prompted the medical examiner’s office to change that ruling to a homicide.

The cops should have checked up on him and all of this could have been avoided.
