    Big Sean- Detroit Mixtape

I was so fucking happy with this mixtape. Big Sean literally said to everyone that he's not going to give up on what made him who he was and just go mainstream. I honestly was on the bandwagon of him just being a mainstream rapper, but dropping this tape made me respect him much more, as did the other million people who downloaded it in the first hour haha.

Just a few of my favorites from the tape:

Number 1 new favorite song for now:

Love every song Wiz and Big have together:

The part when it turns into Mercy and goes right back to the actual song is unreal:

Hit up datpiff.com and it's on there for free! I didn't really want to link it since I don't like posting links other than YouTube and more mainstream sites.

If you're going to name the mixtape "Detroit" try to live up to the name, he makes the city look terrible.

He comes from Detroit and the point of this mixtape was to give something back to the people who have been with him longer than when his first song was on Kiss FM or any of that crap.

What exactly didn't live up to the name?

No one wants to repeatedly hear about money and girls, Detroit rap is life related, D12, Obie Trice, B-Real, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, Eminem, they all rap about their life, about actual occurrences. Not to mention Detroit rap is more of a "throw down" style, i.e Fight music. Big Sean is too soft to represent Detroit, he should rap about where he was born, not where he moved to.

Obviously some people do. I actually agree with you though, I believe in rap being more life related. At the same time, he isn't going to rap about some small town in California since he came out of Detroit in terms of when he became a bigger rapper. Still, most of his raps actually are life-related, he just talks about how he already went through that shit and how much he enjoys being at the top.

Besides that, B-Real and 50 both came out of Cali (Yes I know 50 was eventually put in the game when Eminem found him) but Cypress Hill raps about money and weed and 50 became pretty much all about girls. Eminem just complained about being poor as fuck and having a crack whore wife who couldn't handle his kids. D12 was his groupies so that's not much of an accomplishment by them either. Dr. Dre came "Straight outta Compton". Literally. I don't know, maybe you only listened to rap after the turn of the millennium? In which case you really shouldn't talk about repping a town if you don't realize what towns these rappers actually rep. Dre will never not be associated with the West coast.

Still, that's not even much of an argument. Big Sean didn't make an album saying how he killed people or fucking ran Detroit, he simply shouted out to his town. That's like telling me I can't name something after the town I grew up in because you don't like my views on life. Lol.

All in all, it's not a debate section, just some music to share, and I won't force you to listen to it.

this lol. what, the dude can't rep the city he was raised in just 'caused he isn't some hardened thug? fuck outta here with that. big sean gets all too much hate from dudes that only know of the songs "dance" and "mercy", so they instantly assume all he raps about is booties and that he;s just another cheap mainstream rapper.

imo big sean was a hella good flow, and all of his ffoe releases were fire. idk about detroit cause my desktop is broken so i cant up my iphone with any new releases, but from i hear it was mad decent.

As I look up to the sky... Thought about 100 things to do before I die...
Your taste in rap is bland, and you obviously shouldn't talk about "real life-related rap" if you're naming some of those artists. Hop off Shady's nuts and go cop the new Lupe album.
