Do you think this signature was worth $20?

Basically I wanted kina to do me one for $15 but he impied that if i didnt pay $20 i wouldnt get a $20 effort.:'(
So i went the full monty and now i have this sig, i love it, i think the space theme matches my username (Nova), but is it really worth the $20?

If i could improve it i think it should have some super-nova explosions in the background, just to give it that "Wow!" factor when people see it for the first time.

Thoughts?

No it's not worth $20. The text is choppy, Kinae needs to learn how to anti alias. I think he also needs to stop doing photoshop layer styles to say "I don't use cinema 4d". The text is also over sharpened.
There seems to be this random box thing that looks very out of place also.
It's better than some of kinae's other "premium" signatures but not that great also. Kinae can do good work but I think he's extremely lazy putting minimal work into signatures to make them look semi decent and export them.

 

Maybe after his exams he will be kind enough to go the extra mile and make the text 3D for me

 

The only person it matters to is you. The only reason things have prices is how much someone is willing to pay. If you like it and don't think it was a waste then bam your golden.

 

To be honest I really don't think that is worth $20. Its just some text with a layer style & a background that has been feathered out. Now don't get me wrong, I do these as well. However, I have never charged over $15 for something like this.

Essentially what he is doing is trying to extort money from you by saying that if you don't pay x amount you won't get my best work that I will just take a dump and hand it to you. These new signatures are layer styles in photoshop and they are extremely bad. They take no extra effort or resources than his signatures did before, and by saying that you aren't going to get a good signature unless you pay him more is ridiculous.

Basically your signature is around 3 maybe 4 things. It is a text with some layer styles on it, a couple of space stocks smudged/erased, and some soft brushing. These taken even less effort than C4D sigs do, but people are going to pay for them because they're made by him. Look at the first reply, he'd probably pay $40 for that because he thinks it is coming from someone who actually has skills. The truth is, and I love everyone here, but everyone on Sythe's graphics market sucks at graphics plain and simple and I am not excluding myself from this - I am not God but I have to say that I believe I have a lot more respect from the actual GFX guys which is what matters to me. I am not here to make money anymore, I just want to be able to help people learn and grow in their graphics.

Now, onto value. Art is subjective, to us GFXers we see what it really is and we can tell you what it is worth based on the effort we know it takes versus implied effort on his part. People who don't GFX have no clue how much effort a signature takes so they'll be willing to believe that by paying $20 for a signature that you're going to get the best damn effort money can afford. The truth is none of those sigs should ever sell for more than $10, but like I said people will believe that there was so much slaving and heart that was poured into it that it was worth even more than $20 and you are getting a steal at $20 bucks. Basically this shit wouldn't fly out in the real freelance market place. People don't give a damn about how much effort you say goes into it, they are going to pay a fair market price if they are smart enough to research the graphic design market a little.

He can charge whatever the hell he wants as long as you people keep buying them, but if you make it apparent that you aren't happy and that he can't shut you up like has been done to several other people then it will have some kind of effect. We lost ChineseKid because he was getting too good and charged much lower prices, even though I don't like the kid he was screwed over for something we all do pretty much every time. It doesn't excuse the fact that he tried to impersonate Kina, but he would have never done that if he hadn't been wrongly banned in the first place. He was banned to eliminate competition through unethical means.

Now personally, I don't care what people will think of me after this post. I assume that it will offend those who follow him like a God and assume he is 'teh b3s5t gFxr ev3r.' I am just telling the truth.

tl;dr - it's a free market and he can do what he wants, but it doesn't mean that the work is good just because you're paying too much for it.

Nero, I really hate your comments on this. First, you make dozens of posts about your hatred for the Cinema4D hype I used to have, now I start something like this and you just continue on hating.
No offence; Don't you have anything better to do? If people really thought you were that great, you would be in my position right now, which.. Well, quiet frankly; You are not.
So, if I think logically, you'll keep chasing me untill I leave Sythe, no matter what kind of art style I prefer to use.

lol people are bitching over GFX. Every piece of work that Kina has worked on for me in the past and made for me an been an incredible purchase, I have never been disappointed with what he has produced for me and I intend to buy more stuff off him in the future.

I honestly think you pair are just jealous that he's been so successful on here and achieved things that neither of you ever have, not to mention the fact he arrived here way after either of you did. If his GFX were shit, then how has he had the most successful GFX shop to date?

 

He does good work, and can charge what he wants, you're the one that went with the $20 fee.

however i have expeirenced this with him before I.E paying $500 for a un-completed website with a prebuilt template. :d

 

I just think you don't know shit about graphics. You should try and go to an actual graphics community and see the talent there. You're one of those people I was referring to. The only reason he has the most successful shop is because he started the C4D craze on Sythe. Nothing more, nothing less. You can ask any of the GFX oldfags - Tr1bal, Surj, Spray, any of them. I never called his work shit, I said that there are a lot of people who don't know anything about GFX (IE: You) that think he is a God when they're people who do much better work.

 

I really don't care, he makes GFX that I like and that's all I ask for. Go cry somewhere else.

I'm coming here with an unbiased opinion (as you know I have respect for you as a fellow artist).

Regardless of what you've done in photoshop/how many layers it has, you could easily do that with <10 layers, and ultimately I think compared to your own other work (without c4d), this piece of GFX is horrible aesthetically. You've outperformed this many times, and it looks awfully rushed/scruffy.

 

He had requested this and that is what I have executed.
I know I could have done better, but he wanted me to do all kinds of things with it that I'd rather not have added myself.
I follow my customers opinion, not my own, especially not with Deathnova's case (He wanted specific things which I did not suggest).

Thank you for your opinion on this, and I want you to know that I feel the same about it, yet this is what he wanted me to do and I have done so.

 

1. I had no idea he had requested things himself, so apologies on that front.
2. Aesthetically it can be improved on many levels that are quite obvious though - refraining from soft-brush erasing bright edges (which makes things look 'dirty' on a dark background), or sharpness for instance.

 

I paid Kin 70M for my signature. I'm going to be honest here.

I personally liked my signature, however, I'm not GFX expert, I'm probably the most GFX illiterate person you'll ever meet, so I can't comment on its worth. I used the sig for around 1 week, then removed it. I removed it as I'm not a fan of those type of sigs, not sure why I felt the need to have one. I can agree on some of the comments made, where users point out Kin's work can be refined, and more effort put in. I was made aware of small errors by other GFX artists.

Anyway, tl;dr version. If people like his work, and pay for it, regardless of the question; 'is it worth it', doesn't really matter.

PS. His GFX is in the niche market meaning he can charge whatever the fuck he wants. Yes, business speak! Niche: Small unique business, he can make up his own prices aslong as there is a customer for it.

 

This has become nothing more than a dick-sizing by this site's graphic designers. I'm locking it. Everyone has their opinion.

At the OP, YOU'RE the only person who should be worried about whether the signature you paid for is aesthetically pleasing or not. If you don't like it, don't buy it. If you don't think it's what you came to expect, don't pay what the designer asks, inform them you feel it could have been done better or more to your liking, or that it's not worth as much as it was original priced. There's a reason customized services and their providers-- like GFX designing-- usually wait until after the graphic is completed before charging a customer.
