Suicide

Suicide has long been a contentious issue with many people, cultures and religions over the centuries.

The Catholic Church recently created a creed deeming suicide as no longer being considered a sin. A Catholic who commits suicide can now be buried in a Catholic cemetery.

For the Japanese, under certain circumstances, suicide was a man or woman's honorable duty. This usually occurred during battle or in the eye of certain defeat.

But that's just two examples - there must be many many more views about the taking of one's own life.

So what are some thoughts on the rights and wrongs of suicide: can an individual decide to take their life without referring to their culture or religion?

 

There are already some existing threads on the morality of suicide, and ones personal right to suicide.

I don't think you should have to refer to any religion or culture to perform anything, especially suicide, if you would like to end your life prematurely, you have the right and privilege to do so without interference of religious of social pressure.
