Help me get "fat" gain weight

Alright guys first of i would like to say this isnt a troll this is serious.

I use to be fat like my whole life until probably 7th grade, i just thinned out and hit a giant growth spurt (worst combo ever). Now i'm 140 pounds and about 6'1. I work at a place called Pizza Ranch and they have a buffet. I eat fried chicken and pizza until i can barely walk anymore, 5 days a week. Not to mention i eat 1 banana a day and im always trying to force myself to eat. Ive pushed myself so hard to eat that I've thrown up. Im eating atleast 3,500 calories 5 days a week with no exercise (im in lacrosse [spring sport] so im trying to get a little weight on before season start) for the past 2 months and i haven't moved up 1 pound.

What have you guys done to gain weight if you have ever tried? Or if you haven't tried gaining what was your diet before you started trying to lose weight?

I know that we have a lot of fitness guru's and i figured this would be the best place to get answers for this.

Note that i'm simply trying to gain any weight whether it be fat or muscle at this point.

I'd definitely recommend instead of going for "fat" weight build up, but muscle instead. Getting into a gym will increase your overall muscle and tone yourself up fast, definitely a more proactive and healthier choice :)

Your situation is very simple. Start counting your calories. If you aren't gaining weight, start eating more. It really is that simple for you if you don't care what kind of weight it is.

If you want to gain strictly lean muscle, eat 100 calories over your daily caloric expenditure a day. If you want to gain whatever wait you can (not recommended) then eat 500 over, but no more than that. 3500 calories is roughly 1 pound, so at 500 calories over a day, that is gaining 1 pound a week. Anything more than that is unhealthy, and will hurt you in the long run.

I just want to say that this really isnt healthy at all. I have had underweight and malnutrition problems all my life and after consulting with doctors theyve specifically told me not to ever do something like that.

Anyway to gain more weight: you have to count your calories and like KMJT said, if your not gaining weight, you eat more, gradually build up an appetite like that though. Dont push yourself to cram food down your mouth, because it's likely that your body will just reject it. Focus on more grains and nuts is what I've always been told.

Pizza Ranch? My girlfriend works there.

I was a very skinny child, then around age 10 I got larger, probably around 200 pounds by 6th grade. By the time I was 14 though, I dropped every single pound of it due to depression. I went from 198 pounds to 126 in ONE MONTH. Now THAT fucking sucked.

I couldn't move. I'd lay there, not eat for days at a time, then eat a large meal, only to not eat and repeat the process. Now I have an ulcer that pretty much makes me vomit every morning.

Dude, you are perfectly fine. I'd kill to be 140 pounds. I'm only 1 inch shorter than you, and haven't been above 129 since 9th grade, 4 years ago.

You shouldn't be worried about getting fat, you should be interested in getting fit. Now that I am 126 pounds, I am alot more confident with my body, and more confident with myself. I've found that even though I wished I was fat again before, now I am weight lifting and doing everything I thought sucked ass or was dumb back then. Maybe you should give exercise a try. Ride a bike, get a personal trainer, do something. You may find out it is easier to gain muscle than to gain fat. :3

Pringles are probably your best bet, they're small so they're easy to eat, and they're packed with fat and calories.

Help me get "fat" gain weight

First of all, i would like to thank all of you that replied to the thread, im not going to quote everyone but i will respond to most/all of you

@Libbie : Well i should have added that i hit the gym all summer and currently i look "ripped" (arms/chest/abs are there but not poping out) but i'm in a skinny ripped weird stage. For some reason i burn fat really fast.

@kmjt : I also thought it would be that easy, but it's not happening and im more confused then goldfish trying to do calculus.

@justinkiller : That's statistic wise, im eating roughly 3,500 calories 5 days a week. so thats about 5 pounds a week. times that by the 2 months ive been doing this and i should be up 40 pounds from start. But im not even up 1 pound.

@Superman : But im still getting almost all the necessary servings in each category of the food plate/pyramid. These extra's im eating from the pizza/chicken/potatoes/Ice cream/Pop should all be extra calories on top of what im eating. But i havent tried eating more grains. I hate nuts so i probably wont eat any unless its peanut butter.

@auron is emo : I am fit. But i want weight so i dont get rocked from blindside hits in lacrosse. And i dont want to be fat, never again do i want to be fat. I just want some fat to turn a little muscle or something.

@mage3158 : Ill think about trying it, after what superman said i want to here a little more from him.

If your not gaining then your not eating 3500 calories. It has been proven that if you eat over your maintanence calories you will slowly gain weight. Go online and find out how much calories you need to eat. Which I would guess be like 2800. Then add 500+ depending how fast you want to gain. Very simple stuff..

And if you take a weight gain shake like ON Serious Mass you can easily get 1250 calories out of 1 serving and its all liquid so very easy to take.

Bottom line if your not gaining eat more.

    I'm in a similiar situation except that I'm 6.5' and 185 pounds
Although according to my calculations I would be like 165 pounds at 6.1' so yeah that's still quite a lot above you. I'm also looking to gain some weight as I've also been more on the small/skinnier side. Basketball plays quite a big role in this. Would be nice to be a bit bigger, I'm usually already the tallest guy but I can struggle to push through some people sometimes. Can't really explain it lol. Due to my length it's also harder to gain "big" muscles. My muscles are currently just decent, above average from the people in my class but nowhere near my goal :p /lifestory

Anyways, what I'm doing right now is just eating above the suggested amount of calories per day using GOOD food such as chicken, milk, nuts, etc. Even though I've always been eating whatever I wanted I never got fat but I did gain some weight. I would focus more on eating healthy/good food and going to the gym instead of doing a dirty & unhealthy bulk.

Try building muscle you don't want to build fat. Eat more but don't eat healthy. It's not going to happen quickly I agree. Just eat as much as you can and don't push yourself. Exercise daily and you should soon get to where you want.

Help me get "fat" gain weight

This might be a tl:dr kinda post, so skip to the bullet points if you want :p

    Eat healthier.
Just eating shitty food like pizza and fried chicken won't do much good, you need all the nutrients and vitamins etc.
At the moment I'm bulking up so I take in a lot of food.

I do recommend bulking up rather than just getting fatter, it will help your health anyway. I am always hungry as hell because I exhaust my muscles so they are always wanting more food (I think that's why anyway, i never used to always be hungry when I didn't work out), a little tip to eat more is to eat faster, if you eat slow you will fill up before you can finish your meals. So try and focus on your meals instead of eating while on the computer or something.

I watched a documentary thing on TV about a year ago about some skinny guy (uber skinny) who only ate mars bars. I was like "WTF? why isn't he a fatty?" well it was because he didn't get enough nutrients etc, so he needed to eat other foods.

    Anyway...

    • Eat healthier
    • Eat faster
    • Don't play on the computer (just don't do anything) and focus on your meal
    • Work out a little to bulk up (might as well)

    That's it really..

Unhealthiest way : eat lots of fast food gain body fat then go to a gym and eat protein before workouts and turn into muscle, it works but definitely not healthy.

Common misconception: you can't turn fat into muscle

There is no such thing as bad food and good food in terms of changing body composition. But yes, getting your nutrients is important.

This is the answer in a nut shell. It's science. Your body simply burns calories faster than other people, it just means you have to eat more to gain weight. Try taking a multi-vitamin also.

If you're trying to add-on weight, don't attempt to gain fat. Start building up muscle, it's pretty simple. Plan out a workout routine that you're willing to follow, and stick to, both physically and mentally. I say mentally also, because not everyone sticks to their workout routine because mentally they think they're body can't endure it, which leads to you quitting early. Then also, as several other people have stated, count your calories. Have balanced meals with healthy snacks throughout the day, but don't eat after 7 o'clock. Your body needs time to recover from this point of your day. Take advantage of your metabolism while you still have it! I personally love having my high metabolism, and it makes my health much easier to manage.

    this cannot be more simpler.

Dont eat 3 meals a day. Eat at least 4-6.

Eating 3 meals a day is actually not that good its better to eat lots of mini meals.

No you have to find your total caloric intake, then add 500 calories to that. After 5 days you will gain 1 pound.

Say your caloric intake is 2700, you eat 3200 calories.
