Texting your girlfriend

So I have 2 best friends and the 3 of us are like brothers. We all have girlfriends and we take them out together all the time. We're like a big family. So evidently, we talk about our girlfriends to each other. Lately, they've been giving me shit because I "don't text my girlfriend enough." Now don't get me wrong - we text. It's just not very often. We'll probably exchange 20 texts a day where my friends exchange 100+

That being said here's a question I pose to you

Does texting your girlfriend often mean anything to your relationship?

edit: best friend 1 has been dating his girlfriend for 4+ years
best friend 2 has been dating his girlfriend for 9 months
I have been dating my girlfriend for a handful of months

 

No you don't have to be in constant contact with your girl friend, its when you two meet up that it really counts. Just ignore your friends, imo they text too much.

 

Texting a girl all day every day gets boring quickly. Texting once in a while makes the time you spend together even better.

 

If they're able to text that many times a day and still maintain a normal relationship, great for them.

But you're totally cool with the 20 a day haha. Like Jack said, text are essentially meaningless. What really matters is how good of a time you have when you two are together. Base it off of those kinds of interactions, not emoticons <3

 

I don't text my girlfriend anywhere near 100 times a day. I'd rather see her in person than text her constantly. If you guys can't be apart you won't last.

 

Looks like I'm the "gayboy" that's normal. I told them they were crazy for texting them that much. I don't even like texting in the first place

 

Wow no offense but I'm amazed by how shallow your friends can be. You don't have to "prove your love" by texting every single second. To me that's just not being sincere. Anyone can just flip out thier phones and type in words that they don't mean at all. As mentioned above, it's the time you spend with her that counts. Thanks for sharing and hope this helps

 

Texting a lot gets very boring, very fast, and can leave you without much to say.

 

Honestly I feel that relationships are different for everyone. If you and your partner work without texting each other as frequently, there's no problem with that, as long as you both are comfortable in the relationship. It shouldn't really matter what others are doing because you and your partner are happy as the situation is.

Your friends spend to much time texting, you are doing just fine.

 

I exchange less than 20 a day.. unless she's ranting about something. How old are you guys anyway? Texting isn't really cool anymore.

 

i texted about 50 times a day and hung out on weekends with my ex. Because i was always in school on weekdays I get so bored in class so i just texted her.

 

If you are more for contact, or being around her, then phone calls and seeing eachother is your best option. Although, I've noticed, once I begin to get irritated/annoyed/bored of the girl, or our time just simply isn't as precious as it used to be, I tend to text my girl alot more often. It really depends on what kind of person you are, what kind of relationship you two share, and how compatible you are. Some girls I have dated I talked to for hours and hours on the phone without getting bored. Some I talked to occasionally and texted alot, and some I just texted and never really bothered to call or talk in person much. As I said before, compatibility is everything. If you have alot of interests in common, texting doesn't seem very relevant.

 

I'd say you're fine mate, as long as she's not upset about (she shouldn't be to be honest). 20 texts is good, it's not as if you're ignoring her and treating her badly. Personally I can't bear people who just sit there texting their girlfriend/boyfriend the whole time, it really gets on my nerves. Don't worry about it, ignore your friends. I'd speak to your girlfriend about it too though, just to make sure she hasn't put your friends up to telling you to text more because she's getting pissed off.

 

Meh I don't text my boyfriend much and he doesn't text me. We both have jobs and there just isn't any point. If we want to talk, we talk face to face.

 

Extremely well said. Been with my girlfriend almost 6 years (21 yr old) and i believe we text too.much. About 100-150 a day. Conversation gets very mundane

 

If you guys text 20 times a day you should be fine. Texting doesn't do much to a relationship. If you want to talk to her just do it face to face. As for your friends that is very shocking for me. 100+ texts is something I personally just wouldn't be able to o.

 

the real question is, why would a guy want to text that much, seems about clingy, it's a norm for girls to do it, but a guy?

Anyway man, it should have no effect on your relationship as long as she accepts the fact that you guys don't need to text a hundred times throughout the day to maintain a healthy relationship. It's probably better for your relationship not to text constantly. That way when you guys hang out in person, you could talk, update each other about your and her day, rather than be like "Umm, you already texted me that babe." Plus your girlfriend is stunning, you should want to talk to her face to face, rather than through texts.
