[HELP] Building a Server.

Hi guys. Since the death of 2Speced a few years back, I've played a couple of great servers, but I have always wanted my own. I've looked around for some good guides, but I haven't had much luck.

So, my question is, what all do I need to run my own server?

Internet speed?

Money?

Computer?

I do NOT know how to code, I would love to learn, but I would probably hire a couple.

Someone please just give me a nice detailed run through.

 

So, my question is, what all do I need to run my own server? You need some coders, developers etc. you also need a website so that can cost about 15$ a year for a domain and you can use a free host.

Internet speed? vps has high upload and download

Money? 15$ a month for the vps

I can offer services for a 317 server.

 

That doesn't seem very expensive. So around how much for a nice vps? And I would need Ddos protection.

 

No one would ddos your server untill you get up in the top 5 rankings so don't worry about that. It's around 13$ for a 512mb which can hold around 50-80 players, you can upgrade your plans as you gain a larger player base.

 

So, with all of this said, where would I start? With getting a source? Or what?

If I were you, I'd start off reading more guides and learning more about making private servers. I'd also start out only running it off your own computer, not a vps just to get the hang of things.

 

So for starting the server you need the basics

1.Jdk (Most recent one)
2. Source@Client
3.A team which involves a hoster (unless you buy a vps),coder,in-game staff, and forum maker.

For your computer you need some ram and for your internet if you are planning on hosting it off that then you need fast internet to support the server lag free.

For money it will usually cost around 16$ a month for a vps if you are looking to start off your server without worrying about leaving your computer up.

It's easier than what you think..

 

I suggest you start out hosting it from your computer, moving onto vps, and then dedication if it ever does make it to the top private servers.
I've ran a few and I'm pretty experienced. Give me a PM if you need anything.
