Just got a letter from the police.

Basically I just got a letter from the police saying i'm in trouble for driving without care.
They gave me the time and location of the so called incident and told me to explain it basically in the reply I need to send to them in the post.
I managed to work out at the time of the so called incident I was picking my dad up from the station. So in no way would I have been driving badly as if I had a car full of friends.
Also the location they said does not make sense, because at no point on my journey do I go into the road they said the incident happened on.

Basically I need help on what sort of thing I should reply when I have absolutely no clue of what I have done wrong and what incident they are referring to.

Tell them what you told us and ask what they want.

If you don't have a clue request the evidence and then dispute against it if you have something to prove that you are not indicted in aforementioned police evidence.

Are you sure it's the police and not just a scam?

Yea the letter does seem fishy, I would surely investigate it more thoroughly.

Seems like a scam, they would have pulled you over if they thought you were driving dangerously.

Yep most likely a scam, just to get you to send your license reg cc numbers etc.

As above posters have said, this is a very likely scam. Try searching online to see if others in your area have experienced something similar.

If you determine that it's likely legit, then you might want to consider getting a traffic lawyer. They are really cheap and can save you a ton on fines and increases in insurance premiums.

It's not a scam, if it was sent by MET then call up and refer the case number, if it contains pictures or a snapshot of your car located in said area, what did they say the fault was? they classify driving with a broken tail light etc as dangerous driving since your car wouldn't pass MOT in it's current state.

Hey, as mentioned in the other posts, you should tell them EXACTLY what you told us. You would be able to win because you have an alibi and your father can be the witness. They probably mistaken your car with another. Number plates can be very similar. Don't worry. Just tell the the truth and you should be fine. They can't do anything to you without proper evidence. Hope this helps :)
