Lobsters and coal was a big merchanting thing in the days. Smithing used to be one of the best ways to make money on RS but not many people had the smithing or minning level to make or mine rune.

I also remember going out to KBD and watching people fight him. Back then people could stand in front of him and he wouldnt attack the person he was after cause there friend would block him. This would allow the one fighting to restock on food and then go back at it. Those were the days when you see a level 80 and he was badass.

I remember someone died trying to kill KBD and I was able to scoop up a amulet of glory. Was so excited.

Banks used to be a building with bankers walking around. When there were lots of people in there it was hard to find a banker.

Draynor village used to be a main buying/selling spot.

It was the end of for some people as it occured on 06/06/06, (06/06/07 for some.)

I believe that there were several bugs that led to more than one massacre.

The massacre that is probably the most known was the one where you could kick players out of your house while they were pvp'ing in your dungeon, and they would still be ae to pvp.

The person who first abused the bug got was the first person to get 99 construction, a feat managed in 6 or so days. He had a huge party, abused the bug, but was banned for RWT reasons other than bug abuse.

That's the most that I could remember about that specific massacre

And there was a useless skill called carpentry or so back in the early versions of runescape, I think.

As for my question to OP:
What is your overall opinion of the game now, as many massive changes have been made since '01?

 

Ask me anything about devious mud, the game before rs, 2000 . Sorta the pre-rsclassic.

Merchanting wasn't huge back then - but just general buying for less and selling for more was around obviously.

I was very young at the time, so I did not "grasp" the whole merchanting thing in RSC. However, I did sell r2h's in falador for 55k and buy them in varrock for 50k. But that was late RSC.

Yup, you're all correct on everything. Remember the days when there were no certificates? FML. Used to have to trade 12 lobsters at a time. Bluerose13x was the first one to 99 smithing - and introduced the Rune 2h. The selling price of the r2h was nearly 1 million at one point.. Which is a HUGE amount of money. Also wanted to note that for awhile in RSC you couldn't see peoples combat levels. You would actually have to go to the wilderness just to see if someone was telling the truth. Nobody believed I was level 70..

People trading in draynor Falador was the cool spot to hang out in though!

The game sucks when compared to the 2001 - 2003 age. Not because of the updates or anything, but simply because it's not "new" anymore. I can't put it into words, but here's an example.. Bluerose13x got 99 smithing, which "released" the r2h into the game - a huge accomplishment... Now 99's are so easy, and it makes no difference on who get's a 99 skill. Another thing is PKing, it was so different when there really was no knowledge of pures. Not sure if you'll understand what I mean.

Overall as a game-maker I think Jagex is clearly on the right track with what they are releasing considering the game is from 2001. You can't bring back those old times, huge accomplishments into a game of such age.

I was on during the dupe - it was pretty crazy..

Everyone thought they'd do a rollback, and they were telling people not to buy party hats. People were even saying "Selling unduped party hat". At the time Jagex made an annoucement saying they will offer lifetime membership if someone tells them how the dupe was happening. The people that gave up the method were banned, and never given a membership.

 

Also wanted to note about the dupe -

Pink partyhats were worth the most - it's a bit strange when you think about it. Blues/Whites weren't far behind - so it's clear that thousands of pinks were released into the market, while neglecting the other colors.

I couldn't agree with you any more on that; people had troible believing you when you said that you have a 99 in smithing, even back in '04.

No. They're replacing bxpws with things like Mad May and the Summer things because some people couldn't get on during the time of the bxpw.



I remember when I first started and someone gave me 2k and I was talking to my friend on the phone and I'm like OMGOMGOMG some guy gave me $2,000 wowow thinking it was a lot. Then someone gave me 10k and I freaked out too (I was in 4th grade). Me and my friend thought the anti-dragon shield was really good and I got full mithril from someone and thought it was the best armor and started training up for it.

Before, to be honest I hardly play anymore.

 

The thing with RSC, is that evolution makes it so that even though at the time it sounds like an amazing change, later you regret it, despite the fact that it was for the better. For example the GE, when it came out people thought it was heaven, and although some didn't like it because of other things, most everyone loved it. However now some people say it'd be better without it.

That's kind of the same thing, before it seemed so cool and RSC was awesome but not that amazing, now people are nostalgic and miss those days, I too miss them, nostalgia isn't very nice :Z

I'm pretty sure they looked in the system for whoever did this and banned them, but if someone told them the bug without abusing it they got the membership.

Of course, thats what I meant - but an abuser did tell them how and got banned. Since the abusers were the ones with the method

It was just a simple item id dupe - autorune and the engine were used.

 

Haha escaped many backstabs myself too through the good ol' trees near the hillgiants
