    Motocross?

Hi guys, some of you may know me, i've been around these forums for a long time. Anyway to the point.

Here's my situation, on the 4th of august 2012 I had a fairly bad accident, where I broke rips 3-9, Punctured and collapsed lung, lacerated liver, broken foot and broken hand. Spent 10 nights in hospital, and had an operation which included: Titanium plates to put my ribs back together, 24 screws to hold the plates in place and re-inflating and repairing my lung wall.

This was a pretty scary time for me, but managed to get through it, broken a ridiculous amount of bones during my motocross career (including breaking my neck and back in 4 places) but have never been told this; Basically the doctor said I am never to ride a motocross bike again, some of you may think this is not a big deal, but I have been riding/racing for 13 years pretty much every weekend, so plays a big part of my life.

Thankfully I'm on the mend now, slowly but surely. But all i want to do is ride my bike. They said if i was to have and accident a damage the plates, I would lose alot of blood in a short amount of time, due to the plates being so strong and that there is alot of vital organs in this area.

What do I do? New hobbie?
Just carry on riding? - i know plenty of people who ride with metal work inside them

Everybody gets into an accident as the driver of a motorcycle at least once.
You either get into an accident, label motorcycles as "dangerous" and never ride one again, or you learn from your mistakes and don't make the same ones again.

They said "if you were t have anither accident and damage those plates," which means that you will be fully capable of riding one again.

Do what are you going to do?

Are you going to chicken out because you got into that one big accident (how many accidents like so have you gotten into during your motorcrossing life?) or are you going to learn from your mistake and play it safer this time?

    Your choice

Just wondering before i put my input, how did you only spend 10 nights in a hospital after rib reconstructive surgery when the average sop is 3 weeks + rehab.

probably because he lives in England where he gets real medical attention and they aren't looking to keep him in there for an extra few hundred dollars a night in their pocket.

Hi. Sorry about your accident. It's really unfortunate indeed. I understand that you love ridig bike but think about it... Would you rather risk your life and possibly end your life just to ride bike or would you rather live on and enjoy life to the fullest and take up a new hobby? The second choice is much more appealing isn't it? I feel that you should listen to the doctor as Im sure your loved ones felt the pain of seeing you in such horrible conditions. Would you want them to go through the pain all over again? It's all up to you in the end as its your life. Good luck and get well soon :)
    Thanks for sharing mate :)

LIVE FREE RIDE HARD! i have been racing for 13 years myself, and have had many of the same issues, i rode with chad reed, and his brother michael. there is nothing going to ever stand in the way of my rides.

i would rather die doing something i love. then loving something i cant have.

slow down and just do some trail riding. i ride dirtbikes and just mellowed out after and expensive knee injury, i used to do jumps and all that jazz (never got too insanely good lol whips and nothings are about as extreme as it got) but i took a break after my injury sold my yz 125 and bought an enduro an ttr 225 and just started doing trail riding alot more and LOVE IT ! I also found a huge love in just doing hillclimbs, its been 3.5 years since my injury and the worst i have gotten from trails and tearing ass up hills has been a sprained ankle. i still hit fair sized jumps occasionally, i couldnt give up whips entirely but any aspirations of being a freestyler is long done with. I hardly get to ride anymore though :\

tl;dr stop doing jumps and take on some hill climb or trails, the injurys are alot more mild (usually) and its still super fucking fun.
